Very happy to report that our first Saturday market of the winter season was a success. The rains of last week had a cleansing effect on the air and stopped well before the market was due to open at 8:30 am. The market day started with overcast skies but by 11:00 am I was looking for my sunglasses. Life is good!

Last Saturday was also our first Holiday Bazaar which was well received by both vendors and customers. A special attraction for the bazaar was a demonstration by Silverado Spinners and Handweavers Guild. Watching them work had a very calming and soothing effect as it is so quiet and looks so effortless.

A few new farms that have recently joined us. Gavel's Farm was with us early in the season with tomatoes and has returned with French cucumbers which are not at all like generic variety. Waxing Moon Gardens brings microgreens to the market and Tu Universo Organic Farms is bringing a variety of produce with my favorite being Brussels sprouts still on the stalk.

Last Saturday was the first market for a few vendors. Salt and Savour came down from Dunsmuir with five varieties of organic sauerkraut. A jar of the horseradish and mustard seed flavored sauerkraut managed to make its way into my market basket. New artisans at the market included My Urban Poncho with a variety of ladies ponchos, The Nectar Nest with handmade jewelry and Pacific Kid with an interesting selection of educational soft felt books and storybook sets. Back for their second market was JD's Barkalicious peppermint bark which could be considered addictive.

The market also had its first Ugly Christmas Sweater contest. I'm not sure but I think the judging was rigged. I'm convinced my sweater was the ugliest but the judges found it to be tacky, tasteless and borderline obscene so I was disqualified. The holiday season can only get better.

Holiday Bazaar Happenings

We are so grateful the community came out in force to breathe the fresh air and get a jump on their holiday shopping from our amazing artisans and spectacular speciality food vendors!

Thank you for shopping and supporting
our vendors on Small Business Saturday!

Ugly Sweater Contest contestants, winners (Tia with the llama and Derek in the drunken goat sweater) and special guest judges Napa County Supervisor (and popular Story Time reader!) Brad Wagenkencht and Napa Farmers Market Volunteer Coach Bailie!

You may be asking yourself, "Why didn't the guy of the far left win?" Judges Brad and Bailie deemed Dave's sweater "too ugly"!!!
Some of our vendors got into the holiday sweater spirit, we think Linda (Sweet Linda Lou's) and Sherri's (Sherri Gallagher Designs) were too cute to enter the Ugly Sweater Contest!

About Napa Farmers Market
Napa Farmers Market is a California Certified Farmers Market and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community resource that draws hundreds of shoppers and visitors each market day. Vendors include many local fruit, vegetable and flower growers (some organic); fresh seafood and meat merchants; food purveyors offering coffee, baked goods, pupusas and other ready-to-eat fare; plus, artisanal pottery, jewelry and other hand-crafted wares. Educational kids’ activities, chef demos and nonprofit-organization booths add to the enriching, multicultural shopping experience at the market.
