 2018 National Masters Championship

The 4th Edition of National Masters held on 1-2 December in Wellington, Upper Hutt Weightlifting Club

Huge thanks to Chris and Yvonne Gibbs for hosting, Paule Poulin and 41 Degrees for supporting, our sponsors, all volunteers and officials, as well as spectators.

Because the standards for new BW records were out, athletes could also break records in these, resulting in 111 records broken.

Medals and placings were awarded in the old Body Weight classes and 39 records in those BW classes were set.

The final number of lifters was 60; 32 women and 28 men. Over 25 competed in their first National Masters, well done.

  Top Lifters:

Women
 1st - Tash Cranmer  (WWC) - 244.041
2nd - Odette Smith (FSO) - 200.686
3rd - Debbie Downing (FSO) - 195.272

Men
 1st - Lester Keene (NWC) 337.381
2rd - Greg Bähler (41D) - 310.112
3rd - Paul Davis (NLOW) - 308.047

Functional Strength Olympic had the most athletes of any Club with 9 lifters,
followed by 41 Degrees with 6.

Of note, only 5 lifters have participated in all 4 Nationals Masters Champs:
Samantha Archer, Lee Attrill, Grant McKay, Paule Poulin, and Odette Smith.

We look forward to another busy year in 2019 for all Masters athletes.

Congratulations to our latest NZ National Record Breakers

Congratulations to our latest record breakers! Since our last newsletter there has been one new record.

Female

Anti-doping Matters

  • Did you know... that an athlete who tests positive because they weren't aware of a banned ingredient in a supplement will still record an Anti-Doping Rule Violation - regardless of its 'accidental' intake.

  • 31 December - the deadline for all ADAMS registered athletes to have their 2019 Q1 (January, February, March) Whereabouts submitted.

  • ALL OWNZ athletes have been asked to complete the DFSNZ e-Learning module Level 1. If you haven't done this yet, please do so this month. Use this link to log in, create an account and start the module.

  • If you are wanting to be considered for selection to international events make sure you are ADAMS compliant by the deadlines in the 2019 Selection Policy. If you are not ADAMS registered please contact me to begin that process.
