Duterte is already implementing nationwide martial law with troop deployment in Bicol, Samar and Negros
Without formal declaration, Duterte is already implementing nationwide martial law with the order today to deploy additional military troops and police to the Bicol region, Samar and Negros islands. Duterte’s exercise of de facto martial law powers is based on the flimsy 2016 “declaration of a state of national emergency” to supposedly “suppress lawless violence.” However, it is clear that the order is a desperate attempt to stop the rising tide of peasant unrest and nationwide growth of the NPA.

What To Do About Lone Wolf Terrorism? Examining Current Trends and Prevention Strategies
Unabomber Theodore “Ted” Kaczynski waged a solitary bombing campaign for almost two decades from a backwoods cabin in Montana, developing a unique and self-styled anti-technology ideology in near complete social isolation. He also bore little resemblance to most of today’s solitary attackers whose violence has, for the most part, been encouraged through like-minded online communities and enabled by how-to manuals on the internet. Some have even argued that it is time to retire the lone wolf moniker lest we aggrandize the actions of those who in essence are mass murders.

Violent extremists in the United States represent one of the most significant threats facing the homeland. This was brought into stark focus last month with a mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh killing 11, the worst anti-Semitic attack in the nation’s history, while another domestic extremist mailed pipe bombs to former high-ranking government officials in one of the nation’s largest assassination attempts. There were also reminders of the persistent jihadist threat with individuals in Chicago, Ohio, and Alabama being charged with terrorism-related offenses for providing material support to the Islamic State and al-Qaeda.
