From Julie

Looking towards 2019!

We can't believe we're getting close to the end of 2018, with just a few more rehearsals and choral commitments left for the year!

As we look towards next year, I'd like to share some news regarding our artistic team and ensembles.

Birralee Kids & Piccolos
The main change in our training choirs is that Katherine Ruhle and Debbie Daley, both incredibly talented conductors, will be swapping, with Debbie conducting the Birralee Piccolos and Katherine conducting the Birralee Kids next year.

Birralee Singers
I'm excited to welcome Lou Wall to the position of Assistant Conductor of the Birralee Singers. Lou has been a Choir Manager with Birralee for many years, first with the Birralee Kids and most recently, as a manager for the Birralee Singers. I look forward to working with Lou and the energy and talent she will bring to the role.

Resonance of Birralee
In our signature ensembles, Resonance of Birralee will be evolving, led by current Conductor Paul Holley OAM. He will be supported by an artistic team to include Conductor Peter Ingram, current Accompanist, Brendan Murtagh, new Assistant Conductor Clare Finlayson, with additional staffing to be announced early next year. Peter Ingram has conducted our Birralee Recycled choir for three years, is the current Head of Music at Brisbane Grammar School and is highly regarded for his choral work throughout Australia. Clare has been involved with Birralee as a chorister for 15 years, was assistant conductor for the Birralee Singers and is a Choral Director at Brisbane Girls Grammar.

The reason for the development of this Resonance Artistic Team is to accommodate for the decision to divide Resonance of Birralee into two groups based on ages; 17 - 24 and 25 to 35. This is both for rehearsal and some performance purposes, however, there will still be many times throughout the year where Resonance of Birralee will perform as a whole.

This change will allow Resonance to continue to maintain its high standard as an aspiring choir for our younger choristers and those outside our organisation, while also providing room for growth. For the first time in a while, we have some room for new applications, particularly for men in the older ensemble.

Paul has communicated this change in detail to our current members, but if anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to contact myself or Paul directly.

Birralee Blokes
We are excited to welcome William Brown to join the Birralee Blokes as Assistant Conductor in 2019, working alongside Conductor Paul Holley and Accompanist Justine Favell. William was a member of Resonance of Birralee for seven years and is currently a Music Teacher and Coordinator of Choral Music at St Laurence's College.

That is all the news for now! Please note enrolments are now open for all ensembles, and those who are current members must re-enrol for next year. Click the below button to do so.

We'll be in touch soon with our final Birralee Billboard for the year - a Christmas edition - as we get ready to celebrate the end of 2018!
