We have kicked off the holiday season, we had a lovely time celebrating Orrville's Home for the Holidays.  We have decked the library's halls with boughs of holly. The adult staff created a cheerful Christmas Tree made out of books.  Be sure to stop in a see it!!  The big tree is up and decorated with various book covers.  The Children's Department is ringing in the season with several festive programs.  There is always something fun going on and we hope to see you soon.

POLAR EXPRESS

All Aboard the Polar Express!

The Library invites you to a holiday program of the book, “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg and other holiday favorites.  Join the Children's Staff as they create a magical experience for children and their parents.

Program Dates & Times:
Thursday, November 29 at 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, November 30 at 10 a.m.
Friday, November 30 4:30 p.m.
Friday, November 30 6:30 p.m. 

Free tickets will be available in the Children’s Department beginning November 5. 

Each person who occupies a chair will need a ticket. 

There is a maximum of two adult tickets per child. 

Pajamas are the perfect attire for this holiday adventure.

Food for Fines

Do you have overdue fines on your library card? 

To help our community and our patrons, we are once again offering “Food for Fines” during this holiday season. 

From Friday, November 23 through Friday, December 14, library patrons can bring non-perishable, non-expired food items to the library and receive credit for overdue fines. 

Each food item donated will be worth 50 cents.  Please note that this credit is for overdue fines only, not for charges for lost or damaged items. 

All goods will be donated to the Salvation Army’s annual food drive.

Food donations can be brought to the circulation desk any time during library hours.

Holiday Music Trivia

Take a break from your Christmas gift shopping for some fun with your friends. 

We will be hosting Holiday Music Trivia at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 6. 

Songs will range from the traditional holiday favorites to the modern classics. 

Registration begins Monday, November 5 for this free event.

Gingerbread Houses
 

Gingerbread houses are a family tradition in many homes. 

Come to Orrville Public Library on Saturday, December 8 to start your own tradition. 

We will have everything you need to make this fun holiday treat. 

This free program is for children in grades K – 4.  Choose either the 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. time slot.

Registration is required as space is limited.

Reindeer Games
 

Reindeer Games is full of stories, crafts, and music about Santa’s reindeer friends. 

Story time-aged children are invited to come to this special event at Orrville Public Library. 

Story times will be held at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11. 

Registration is required.

Interactive Movie
 

Can the dressed-in-red jolly big guy ever take a sick day?  Find out when you come to our showing of "A Year Without Santa Claus"

Children and their grown-up will experience this movie like never before. 

The Children's staff will be leading the crowd in sing-a-longs, shout outs, and using noisemakers throughout the movie.

To register or for more information, contact the Children's Department at 330-683-1065. 

Registration begins Monday, December 3.  Space is limited.

 

Teen S.T.E.A.M.

Can you make a fan turn on or an LED light up? 

Teens in 7th through 12th grade will learn how to do just that at our Teen STEAM event.

Stop by at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 21 and 28 to experiment with how circuits work. 

There will also be a special challenge:  building an electric-powered machine!

No registration is needed for this free program.

Winter Reading Program
Blizzard of Books 

All ages can have fun and earn prizes with our Winter Reading Program, "Blizzard of Books."

Beginning December 21, stop by the library to get started.  By reading books and earning prizes, children in grades K-6 will get to decorate a snowflake to add to our big window in the Children's Department.  Teens in grades 7 - 12 can pick up their snowflake form and will earn a prize after reading just three books.  Adults will receive a prize ticket for each book that they read and will be entered in the grand prize drawing for an Amazon gift card.  There will also be random weekly drawings for the adults to win a free Dairy Queen Blizzard.

The program continues through February 22.

 

Closed for Christmas Holiday

The library will be closed on Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25.

We will be open on New Year's Eve from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
