LOCAL AREA SEND INSPECTION

Dear Bromley Parent Voice Parents and Carers,

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspect education and care settings and jointly local areas to see how well they fulfil their responsibilities for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities following the implementation of the Children and Families Act 2014. It is likely that Ofsted and CQC will carry out a joint inspection of London Borough of Bromley local area imminently.

The framework for the inspection sets out underlying principles for the inspection, including working with children, young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities and their families.
This is our chance as parents & carers to have our voices heard directly by Ofsted and CQC.

The areas that the Joint Inspection team will focus on are:
  • How well the local area identifies and assesses the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.
  • How well the local area meets the needs of these children and young people so that their outcomes and chances of participating fully in society improve.
The inspection will also include a parent meeting and an online webinar to allow for a wider group of parents and carers in the London Borough of Bromley area to contribute. In order to prepare for this inspection, BPV are organising a Parent Focus group. The session will be led by Kay Moore (Children & Young Person & Parent SEND Lead LBB) and Ros Luff (BPV) who will ask parents and carers about their views and experiences.

When: Tuesday 4th December from 6:30-8:30pm at United Reform Church, 20 Widmore Road, Bromley, BR1 1RY (Refreshments will be provided).

While we understand that many parents and carers may have views on their experience that extend before the implementation of the reforms in September 2014, it is important that this session is used as the start for gathering evidence about the impact of the reforms as part of the Local Area inspection.

Please note that BPV we will not be able to follow up or comment upon individual cases during this session.
