James Downie (above): Born in Manchester in 1949, Downie grew up with a great interested in art spending many hours in the town galleries studying old masters including the great Northern artist L.S. Downie was influenced by Lowry's work which he captures in his own paintings representing the past during the 1950' & 60's with a charming sophisticated influence of Lowery naivety at the heart.

Born in Scotland in 1969, trained and worked as a Graphic Designer in Glasgow, John moved to England in 2002 and started painting in his spare time but is now a full time artist working from home in Bolton, Greater Manchester. Again an artist influenced by Lowry using the stylized match stick figures and urban scenes.

October's Antiques Fair at the
Dorking Halls.
October's fair was full of challenges with the F1 Rob Walker Festival held directly outside the Dorking Halls. Most certainly the cars looked very impressive and received a great response from the public but presented several logistical issues for us, our stallholders and visitors. Our sincere thanks to everyone for their support, patience and consideration .
For those F1 car enthusiasts, below are a few images of the procession of cars setting off up the High street and outside the Halls !

Meanwhile, inside the Dorking Halls, we had such a great mix of antiques from all periods, styles and subject matter ........:

Left is a rare copy of a 17th century book, 'Act of the Apostles', dates 1699.
However, hidden inside is a flintlock pocket pistol - contemporary with the book. The flintlock circa 1700. is engraved for Toulouse with a grotesque carving of a mythical beast on the walnut grip.
