Appeal for Food Pantry Volunteers
Monday through Friday, 10:00 to 11:00 am

Our Food Pantry is able to assist hungry neighbors through the faithful commitment of our wonderful pantry volunteers and our drivers. Sometimes, a volunteer must miss a pantry “shift,” and he/she has to get a substitute. We have a small list of pantry subs, but we need to add more helpers to this list. It is so easy and so rewarding to be a pantry sub! You do not have to commit to a certain day; you simply help out if you are able to when a regular pantry volunteer calls you to sub. If you can do it, wonderful—if not, they’ll find another sub. This works well, especially if there are enough subs, so please, won’t you consider being a pantry sub? This is typically a one-hour shift. Call Susan Williams at (828) 627-2226 if you can help us out, and we’ll provide a simple training session.

Annual Parish Meeting
Sunday, December 2nd during Education Hour (9:15 am) in Thatcher Hall

Join us as we celebrate another year God has blessed us with at Grace Church and as we prayerfully discern God’s call to our community for next year.
International Mission Trip Interest Meeting
Sunday, December 2nd at 2:00 pm in Thatcher Hall

Join us in a very early-stage conversation about taking a mission trip to Haiti or Cuba. We will be joined by parishioners from Incarnation Highlands, a church that has engaged in much ministry in Haiti, as well as by Grace Church parishioners Jim Geenen and Michael Lodico, who have both been to Cuba on mission trips. After the meeting, Joslyn+ and others will assess whether there is enough interest within the parish to form a team or ad hoc committee to pursue further planning, so if you are at all interested, please attend!

Ways to Share and Give this Holiday Season
Warming Tree
November 7th through 28th
Thatcher Hall

What a marvelous ministry! Our annual Grace Warming Tree has been moved up a month so we can better serve our neighbors in need. Please bring donations of gently used and new hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, thermal underwear/long johns, socks, and blankets/throws. Your donated items will be shared with families via the Pigeon Center, the young via Mountain Projects and Head Start, and the old via the Senior Center. These items can be placed near the Clothes Tree in Thatcher Hall. All sizes, shapes, and colors will be distributed with delight!

Questions, pick-up arrangements, and/or donation receipts can be facilitated by Diane Collins (704-607-5992).
Call for Knitters and Crocheters to Make Hats, Gloves, and Mittens

The Marthas Knitting Guild invites you to make hats for Mountain Projects and Pathways families. We can provide yarn and needles or hooks for any who don’t have a stash. We hope to make or acquire warm things for 75 adults and children by the end of November. Please contact Emily Chatfield-Lusto or Paula Welling if you’d like to help.

Angel Christmas Tree
November 18th through December 12th
Thatcher Hall

‘Tis the season to be an angel to an angel! The Grace Church Angel Tree will be displayed in Thatcher Hall, adorned with beautiful gift tags. These wishes come directly from the homeless children and youth of Tuscola High and Waynesville Middle Schools. They vary in cost, so please feel free to take one or more gift tags. The gifts do not need to be wrapped, but please attach the gift tag to the purchased items. All gifts must be placed under the Angel Tree by December 12th.

If you’d rather donate to help in the gift-giving effort, please make out a check to Grace Church and note “Angel Tree” in the memo area. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in helping to bring Christmas joy to a homeless child!

If you have any questions, please contact Laurel Destry (
email or 828-558-7818) or Maureen Hunt (678-491-7952).
Preparing for the ECW Cookie Sale
Monday & Tuesday, December 10th & 11th, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm
Grace Church Kitchen

Please see the Grace Church Cookie Sale sign-up board in Thatcher Hall to indicate if you would like to make cookies in the Grace Church kitchen in preparation for the upcoming Cookie Sale. There also is a sign-up sheet for you to indicate how many and what kind(s) of cookies you will be making, regardless of whether you come and use the kitchen. Our goal is to make 150 dozen cookies to make enough money to gift Haywood Pathways with $1,000.00 for the Women and Children’s Center.

If you should have questions about making your cookies at the church, contact Carol Lans (828-926-8062). For other questions about the cookie sale, contact Laurel Destry (828-558-7818). Thanks for your help with this ECW project!

And mark your calendar for the sale—Saturday, December 15th from 9:00 am to noon.
Christmas Cards for Military Veterans
December 1st through 16th in Thatcher Hall

This amazing gift of our hearts and hands allows us to share some joy, peace, blessings, caring, and support with area veterans who will be confined during the holy season at the VA Hospital in Asheville, Silver Bluff in Canton, and Autumn Care in Waynesville! Religious-themed Christmas cards and pens will be available in Thatcher Hall for lots of thoughtful signing beginning in December. You are also welcome to take cards home to sign and return.

Please be certain that all signed cards are returned to our "mail box" by Sunday, December 16th! If you have Christmas cards you'd like to donate (more than you want to sign for our service men and women), please place them on the bottom shelves of our "card cabinet" beside the water fountains. (Secular cards will be made available to our needy neighbors through the Grace Food Pantry).
Grace in the World
"A General Thanksgiving"
from the Book of Common Prayer p. 836

Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all that you have
done for us. We thank you for the splendor of the whole
creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life,
and for the mystery of love.

We thank you for the blessing of family and friends, and for
the loving care which surrounds us on every side.

We thank you for setting us at tasks which demand our best
efforts, and for leading us to accomplishments which satisfy
and delight us.

We thank you also for those disappointments and failures
that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on you alone.

Above all, we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the
truth of his Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast
obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying,
through which he overcame death; and for his rising to life
again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom.

Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know him and
make him known; and through him, at all times and in all
places, may give thanks to you in all things. Amen.
