Highlights from The Carpentries Community Calendar
Carpentries Executive Council Elections
A blog post last month announced elections for the 2019 Carpentries Executive Council. There are still a few days left before the November 26 deadline to submit your nominations and recommendations! Community calls to meet candidates will be announced shortly. Please see the blog post for complete details and contact Kate Hertweck with any questions.
Data Carpentry Geospatial Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) Meetings
The Geospatial CAC has been meeting to continue developing this lesson set. This includes conversations around technologies taught, tools and platforms used, and understanding the workshop’s audience. Read previous meeting minutes and check out the upcoming November 2018 meetings.
Carpentries in Libraries
On 3 December, Library Carpentry will hold a community call with Ed Summers, Software Developer at the Maryland Institute for Technology and DocNow. He will present the Documenting the Now project and tools to support social media and web archiving efforts.

Mentoring Groups Virtual Showcase
Did you miss the Mentoring Groups Virtual Showcase? The Mentoring Groups concluded the last round of mentoring with a virtual showcase of 30 attendees. Check out the slides and see what projects are going on around the community! Look for the next round of mentoring to start in late January 2019. For more information, contact Kari Jordan.

Instructor Training Committee
The instructor training curriculum has some updates! Changes made during our October curriculum push include addition of Library Carpentry as a lesson program, reorganization to provide more time for interactive exercises, and added material on preparing to teach a lesson and managing a workshop classroom.
What you may have missed on the blogs and mailing lists
We blogged about the Instructor Development Committee’s discussion about delivering exercises to learners, in order to leverage the experience of our community of instructors and provide feedback to the Lesson Infrastructure Committee. The Code of Conduct committee shared a transparency report documenting recent incidents.

Kari Jordan presented the keynote at JupyterDay in the Triangle, a day long event showing how career researchers and data scientists use Jupyter in their work.
Chris Erdmann presented two talks at the Charleston Library Conference: “Collective Action: Community Approaches in Scholarly Communication” and “Stopwatch Session: The Carpentries: Teaching data science skills to researchers and people working in library- and information-related roles worldwide”
