Sieger des
Malwettbewerbs
Wir freuen uns, Ihnen mitteilen zu können, dass die Siegerin des Malwettbewerbs zum DISD-Leitbild feststeht: Das Bild von Mariam Suwwan, 11a, hat die Jury überzeugt und wird in Zukunft das DISD-Leitbild visuell darstellen. Der Preise ist ein Malkurs bei der Künstlerin Petra Kaltenbach. Den 2. Platz erhielten Karma Elgharib, 8a und Julia H., 3b. Der 3. Platz wurde an Emily Wingrich, 11a, vergeben. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!

Winner of the Painting Contest
We are happy to announce that the winner of the painting contest was chosen:
The work of Mariam Suwwan, 11a, convinced the jury and will represent the DISD mission statement visually from now on. Furthermore, she wins a painting workshop with the artist Petra Kaltenbach. Karma El-Gharib, 8a, and Julia H., 3a, made 2nd place. 3rd place was given to Emily Wingrich, 11a. Congratulations!

Winter Multi Sports Camp
Ab sofort ist die Anmeldung für das jährliche Winter-Camp von Just Play möglich! Das Camp bietet Ihren Kindern die Möglichkeit während der Winterferien neue Sportarten auszuprobieren und neue Freundschaften zu schließen. Auch Kinder aus anderen Schulen sind herzlich willkommen!

Lost & Found
Verlorene Gegenstände werden im Lost & Found-Bereich deponiert und können dort jederzeit abgeholt werden. Am Weihnachtsbasar kann sich von den nicht abgeholte Fundsachen gegen eine Spende bedient werden.
Lost items are stored in the Lost & Found section of the school and can be picked up there at any time. Items which are not collected, will be distributed at the christmas bazaar against a donation. |

Jede DISD-Familie erhält im Schulshop 1 schwarzes Eltern-Schlüsselband mit Kartenhülle gratis. Sie können Ihr Schlüsselband ab Mittwoch zu den Schulshop-Öffnungszeiten abholen.
Lanyard for the parents
Every DISD family will receive 1 black parent lanyard with card holder free of charge from the school shop. You can pick up your lanyard during the school shop opening hours from Wednesday onwards.

Vorlesetag
In ganz Deutschland wurde am 16. November, dem bundesweiten Vorlesetag, vorgelesen. Auch an der DISD wurde fleißig und mit Unterstützung von Eltern vorgelesen.
Sie finden hier einige Schnappschüsse aus den ersten Klassen. Auch im Arabischunterricht wurde das Vorlesen geübt.

Reading-aloud Day
All over Germany, on November 16th, people, students and adults read out loud for the official Reading-Aloud-Day. At DISD we joined the initiative with the support of parents. You can find some snapshots from the first classes here. Even in the Arabic class, reading aloud was practiced.

Science Days
Vom 13.-14. November fanden zum ersten Mal die Science Days in der DISD statt. In allen Grundschulklassen wurde zwei Tage lang zum Thema „Mobilität“ geforscht. Noch bis Mittwoch sind die Ergebnisse im Foyer ausgestellt.
In der Sekundarstufe, verbrachten die 5. - 8. Klassen 2 Tage in der Sporthalle und bauten kreative Kettenreaktionen.

Science Days
From November 13th-14th , the Science Days took place for the first time at DISD. All primary school classes spent two days researching about “Mobility”. The results are exhibited in the school foyer until Wednesday.
In Secondary School, students of grade 5 to 8 spend two days in the sports hall and built creative chain reactions.

Am Donnerstag, den 25.10.2018 hatten die 4. Klassen Besuch aus den USA.
Die öffentliche Rednerin Corretta Doctor und Autorinnen C. Natasha Richburg und Dr. Anita Davis Defoe lasen den Schülern aus den Büchern „The Super Adventures of The Red Balloon“ und „Kawabena and the Baobab Tree” vor.

Authors Reading
On Thursday, October 25th, grade 4 had visitors from the USA. The public speaker Corretta Doctor, and the authors C. Natasha Richburg and Dr Anita Davis Defoe read the students from the books „The Super Adventures of The Red Balloon“ and „Kawabena and the Baobab Tree”. Read the full report here.

Dazu gibt es leckere Weihnachts-Naschereien von Organic Foods & Café und eine Verkaufsstand für Lebkuchen & Co.

Parent Café
We cordially invite all parents to our Christmas themed parent café on Tuesday, December 4th from 8 to 9 am in the canteen. This time the DISD student representatives will present their work and initiatives.
Further there will be delicious Christmas treats from Organic Foods & Café - with a pop-up stall for ginger bread and the like.

Treelighting Event @ Steigenberger Hotel
Wie im letztem Jahr, veranstaltet das Hotel Steigenberger Business Bay gemeinsam mit der DISD ein Treelighting Event, bei dem der DISD-Chor singt und einige Wünsche der Schüler erfüllt werden. Das Event beginnt um 18 Uhr und kann ohne Registrierung kostenfrei besucht werden.

Die Vorbereitungen für den Weihnachtsbasar laufen auf Hochtouren. Bitte melden Sie sich bei Ihrem Klassenlehrer oder Elternvertreter, falls Sie sich noch einbringen möchten.
Wir möchten Sie hiermit um Kuchenspenden für den Kuchenstand der 8. Klassen bitten. Kuchenspenden bitte einfach mit zum Basar bringen und am Stand (im Sekundarstufen-Foyer) abgeben. Vielen Dank!

Christmas Bazaar
The preparations for the Christmas Bazaar are in full swing. Please get in touch with your class teacher or parent representative if you would like to help.
We would like to ask you for cake donations for the bake sale of grade 8th. On the day of the bazaar please submit your cake donation at the bake sale stand (in the secondary school foyer). Thank you!
Further we are looking for volunteers that will help with the bazaar set-up on Friday, December 7th, from 10 am. Please write to events@germanschool.ae.

Abiturienten-Tombola
Die Weihnachtsbasar-Tombola wird wieder von den Abiturienten organisiert, die damit Geld für ihren Abiball sammeln. Es gibt tolle Preise zu gewinnen. Hauptpreis ist in diesem Jahr ein Economy Class Flugticket nach Europa (Hin- und Rückflug) von KLM.
Außerdem gibt es es zwei "Autodrome Driver Experiences" von Audi zu gewinnen. Unser Schulsponsor Audi ist in in diesem Jahr einer der Hauptsponsoren des Abiballs und bietet am Tag des Weihnachtsbasars sogar Probfahrten an.

The Christmas Bazaar Tombola is once again organized by the graduates. They will use the revenue for their graduation ball. You can win great prizes. The main prize is a Economy Class Round Trip to Europe sponsored by KLM.

Am Tag des Weihnachtsbasars findet auf dem Sportplatz ein Nikolaus-Fußballturnier statt. Schon ab 15 Uhr kann man sich auf dem Fußballfeld mit Torwandschießen aufwärmen.

Football Tournament
On the day of the bazaar, a football tournament will take place on the football pitch. From 3pm you can warm up at the goal wall on the sports field.
Our sports coordinators Jessica Prelle and James Dodd are looking forward to teams built of students, teachers, parents and staff to compete in a fun tournament.

Weihnachtskonzert
Alle Jahre wieder … bringt die Musikfachschaft der DISD die Schulgemeinschaft mit festlichen Klängen in Weihnachtsstimmung. Schüler von der Grundschule bis zur Sekundarstufe präsentieren ihr musikalisches Talent. Auch der Elternchor ist mit dabei.
Das Weihnachtskonzert findet am Mittwoch, den 12. Dezember um 19 Uhr in der Schulkantine statt. Eintritt ist frei.

Christmas Concert
Year after year the DISD Music Department brings Christmas spirit to the school community with festive sounds at the Christmas Concert. Students from Primary and Secondary school will present their musical talents. The Parent-Teacher Choir will perform as well.
Our Christmas Concert takes place on Wednesday, December 12th, 7.00 pm in the school canteen. Entrances is free. We are looking forward to many guests!

Chorprobe ist jeden Sonntag und/oder Mittwoch, von 12:30 bis 14:00 Uhr, im Musikraum der Sekundarstufe.

The parents-staff-choir is looking for singers! Everyone who likes to sing is welcome – no matter which experience and level you have. Choir rehearsal is every Sunday and/or Wednesday, from 12.30 until 2.00 pm, in the music room of secondary school.

Training der deutschen Rugby Mannschaften an der DISD
Wie bereits in den Jahren zuvor, ist die DISD stolz, die Deutschen Rugby Nationalmannschaften zu unterstützen. Im Rahmen der Emirates Airlines Dubai Rugby 7s finden sich die Teams in der Woche zuvor in Dubai zur Vorbereitung ein.
- Am Mittwoch 28.11. um 10.30 Uhr und am Donnerstag, 29.11. um 11 Uhr wird die Männer Mannschaft auf dem Außenplatz der DISD trainieren.
- Am Mittwoch 28.11. um 16.30 Uhr findet sich dann die Frauen Mannschaft zum Training ein.
Eltern und Schüler sind herzlich willkommen zum Zuschauen und können sich sicherlich das eine oder andere Autogramm und Foto der Spieler ergattern.

German Rugby Teams practice at DISD
As in previous years, the DISD is proud to support the German national rugby teams.
As part of the Emirates Airlines Dubai Rugby 7s, the teams arrive in Dubai the week before for preparation.
- On Wednesday 28.11. at 10.30am and Thursday, 29.11., 11am, the men's team will train on the DISD pitch.
- On Wednesday 28.11. at 4.30pm, the women’s team will then take over for training.
Parents and students are welcome to watch and should be able to get some autographs and photos of the players.

In der Dubai Fitness App trugen insgesamt 30 Schüler und Mitarbeiter ihre Sportaktivitäten ein und kamen dabei auf 24.000 Minuten. Dabei waren die Schüler Ty und Jaden sowie unsere Schulkrankenschwester Hilde Arnold am aktivsten. Weiter so!

Dubai Fitness Challenge
DISD successfully particiapted in the Dubai Fitness Challenge.
Our Sports Coordinators organised Football- and Basketballtournaments during the breaks, Class 1a & 1d and 6a visited the Fitness Challenge Villages and students and staff ran the Colorrun. Furthermore, our Swim Team did a great job at the Dubai City Swim & DAMAN Swim Fest. Finnaly KHDA visited the school to practice riding the bike with class 4a.
A total of 30 students and staff used the Dubai Fitness App to log in a total of 24.000 minutes of sports activities. Students Ty and Jaden as well as our school nurse Hilde Arnold were the most active! Keep it up!

Fitness statt Frust
Tolle neue Initiative zur Gewaltprävention aus der Abteilung Schulentwicklung: Schülerinnen und Schüler der Klasse 9 bis 12 können sich neuerdings bei der Pausen-Fitness-AG im Fitnessraum der Schule auspowern.
Geleitet wird die AG von den beiden Schülern Ahmed Batal und Ahmed Hassan aus der 10a. Interessierte können sich bei ihnen anmelden. Mehr Informationen gibt es hier. |

Fitness against Frustration
Great new initiative for violence prevention from the Department for School Improvement and Development: Students from grade 9 to 12 have now the opportunity to burn off energy at the break time fitness club in the school’s gym. The club is run by the two students Ahmed Batal and Ahmed Hassan from 10 a. Interested students can register with them. You will find more information here.

Die Verkehrssicherheitsaktion „Sicherheit geht vor!“ wurde auf Anfang 2019 verschoben. Der Kiga-Elternbeirat gibt weitere Informationen und den genauen Termin weiter, sobald er feststeht.

The traffic safety initiative „Safety first!“ is postponed to the beginning of 2019. The Kiga-Parents-Council will inform you about the event details, once the date is set.

Digital Learning @ DISD
Die Abteilung der DISD-Schulentwicklung hat ein Pilotprojekt gestartet, bei der eine Schulklasse und ihre Lehrer für sechs Wochen digital ausgestattet werden. Mehr Informationen finden Sie hier.
Zum Auftakt des Projekts wurde der Keynotespeaker und Certified Apple Teacher Abdul Chohan eingeladen, der Lehrern und Eltern am 15.11.2018 sehr eindrücklich darstellte, worin die Vorzüge einer bewussten und gesteuerten Nutzung von moderner Technik im Unterricht liegen.

The DISD Department for School Improvement and Development has started a pilot project where on eclass and their teachers will be digitally equipped for six weeks. Please find more information here.
To launch the initiative the school invited keynote speaker and Apple Certified Teacher Abdul Chohan, who gave an inspiring speech to teachers and parents about advantages of a conscious use of modern technology in the classroom on the 15.11.2018.
