TVPPA Awards

13 Certificates

To Close 2018
TVPPA Education & Training closed 2018 by awarding 13 certificates at TVPPA's Customer Service & Communications and Human Resource Management conferences, each of which was conducted Nov. 14-16 at The Chattanoogan Hotel.

Certified Power Supervisor (CPSv) and Certificate of Customer Service (CCS) designations were awarded at the CS & C Conference, while Utility Human Resources (UHR) certificates were presented at the HRM gathering.

Individuals who completed coursework for UHR certificates but were unable to attend the HRM Conference were Melissa Qualls of Meriwether Lewis EC, Centerville, TN and Jamie Sexton of Duck River EMC, Shelbyville, TN.

Individuals who completed coursework for CCS certificates but were unable to attend the CS & C Conference were Carol Brown, Brooke Fabera, Katie Forsythe, Lisa Hobby, Valerie Prince and Sally Redd of Duck River EMC; Haley Garmon, Stephanie Holland, Kyla Kruizenga and Briana Zeitz of Warren RECC, Bowling Green, KY; Bill Busby of Northcentral Mississippi EPA, Byhalia, MS; Meghan Childress of PES Energize, Pulaski, TN; Christina Flippin of Bowling Green, KY, MU; Elizabeth Garcia of Mayfield, KY, E & WS; Beth Hawkins of Fort Loudoun EC, Oneida, TN and Brittani Murillo of North East Mississippi EPA, Oxford, MS.

Line Apprentice Lab 5 Troubleshooting
Dec. 3-7 • Jackson, TN, EA
This 5-day lab covers a variety of skills including safety, PPE, hot-line tools, protective devices, OSHA/NFPA standards, testing line voltage, substation, breakers, regulators, capacitords and troubleshooting techniques.


Components/Strategic Planning
Dec. 4-5 • TMEPA • Brentwood, TN
Change can be planned or unplanned. Strategic planning is a planned change process designed for creating desired, future results, typically within three to five years. The design of this workshop focuses on preparing departments/organizations to initiate a strategic-planning process and assess readiness for strategic change. This is a NASBA-approved class. The instructional delivery method is “group-live.” You will receive 14 CPE credits in the Business Management and Organization field of study. In accordance with the standards of the National Registry of CPE Sponsors, CPE Credits have been granted based on a 50-minute hour. The program level is Advanced. There are no prerequisites for this course. 


Utility Business Statistics/Analysis
Dec. 4-5 • TMEPA • Brentwood, TN
Utility Business Statistics/Analysis examines the statistics of a utility to define the dynamics of each business model. The course seeks to help define the individual utility by analyzing available statistical information. It then translates those statistics into an analytical analysis designed to provide financial predictors of system performance. Class exercises cover cost of ownership, rate components, revenue requirements, cost assignment and goals of rate design. A final exercise allows class participants to utilize a sample utility financial model to evaluate several major expenditures and determine rate impacts. While the course will utilize several technical area of expertise to achieve the final analysis, the material allows a participant with any level of experience or expertise to understand and benefit from the class exercises. Three industry professionals will lead this course.


Line Apprentice Final Exam
Dec. 4-6 • Bellefonte • Scottsboro, AL
This comprehensive exam is the final step in completing the TVPPA Lineman Apprenticeship Program (Legacy, Millennial, and Revised editions). It includes written and field skills elements exam. In order to pass you must satisfactorily complete all critical elements and objectives.


Advanced Line Certificate Training Phase 3
Dec. 4-6 • BrightRidge • Johnson City, TN
Advanced Transformer: When servicing transformer banks in an emergency situation, understanding transformer bank sequence is essential. This module teaches three-phase connections, including troubleshooting within these connections. Voltage phasers are key to transformer bank construction, troubleshooting and emergency transformer bank problem-solving, and lineworkers with an understanding of voltage phasers can more effectively analyze transformer bank problems. The students will learn hands-on problem solving techniques through study and analysis of miniature transformers.


Power System Equipment
Dec. 10-14 • TMEPA • Brentwood, TN 
This workshop covers features of power-system equipment, methods of construction, insulation systems, and equipment applications. Participants study circuit breakers and switches, reclosers and sectionalizers, fuses, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitor banks, surge arrestors, stand-by batteries and grounding.

TVPPA Class Cancellation Policy
Registrants who cancel 7-14 days prior to a class will be charged 50 percent of the registration cost as a cancellation fee. Registrants who cancel fewer than seven (7) days prior will be charged 75 percent of the registration cost. Registrants failing to cancel prior to the start of the class will be responsible for the entire registration fee. You may avoid the cancellation fee by sending a substitute registrant.
