Trey Anthony's How Black Mothers Say I Love You

As part of our 2018-19 Season, Black Theatre Workshop is presenting a play that is sure to resonate greatly with our community. Trey Anthony's How Black Mothers Say I Love You tells the oft unheard tale of Black Caribbean women immigrating from their homelands, leaving behind their young children, in the hopes of building a better future for them. 

We are proud to announce the four talented Black women who will be gracing the stage to bring Trey Anthony's riveting and provocative story to life, under the direction of yet another talented Black woman of the theatre, Tamara Brown.

Angélique: One Night Only!

In 1734 an enslaved Black Woman was found guilty for allegedly setting fire to the city of Montreal, and was hanged. After the successful run of Black Theatre Workshop & Tableau D’Hôte Theatre’s production of Lorena Gale's Angélique in 2017, we are pleased to bring a staged reading of the French translation of this important story to a francophone audience. This One Night Only event will take place at Centre du Théâtre D’Aujourd’hui on December 15 at 8pm.

Black Theatre Workshop has created a new mini-grant in the Vision Gala Young Leaders’ Table as an initiative to bridge the gap between the theatrical community and the younger generation of our Black community. This opportunity to connect and engage with leaders in the Black community, political figures and our honourees, is open to anyone from the Black Community, aged 18-35 years who demonstrate themselves to be leaders in their chosen field.
