The feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 9 is my favorite feast in December (after Christmas, of coarse.) I'm so excited to introduce you to this devotional hymn. Let's prepare our hearts for Christmas with Mary our Mother!

Lesson Plans

Week 1

  1. Visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe to download & print the music, listen, and learn about the miraculous image.

  2. Tips:  First, speak one phrase, and have your kids repeat it back to you. This is the beginning of memorizing and getting used to the words. Go at your child's pace. Listen to the hymn again, and play it whenever you need a dose of Catholic music.

  3. Pray the Novena from Dec. 4-12

Week 2

  1. Learn first verse.  Listen here. Or here (sung by an 11-year-old girl.)

  2. Begin copywork & illustrations to aid meditating on the text.  Here is a printable of the text.

  3. Learn about the feast for December 12

Week 3

  1. Learn second verse.

  2. Finish copywork & verse illustrations.

  3. Read the Scientific Facts and Signs and Symbols found in the miraculous image.

  4. Or, watch the documentary

Week 4

  1. Enjoy the Christmas season, and the beautiful carols! I love to listen to the Benedictines of Mary CDs: Advent at Ephesus, and Christmas at Ephesus

  2. Teens/Adults: Watch the 3th episode of On a Sacred Note The Reformation and Counter-Reformation” from CatholicTV.org

Hymn to Our Lady of Guadalupe

Refrain
Maria, O most merciful Mother,
Gentle virgin with the name Guadalupe.
On a mountain we find roses in winter,
All the world has been touched by your love.

1. You are the fountain of my life,
Under your shadow and in your protection,
I fear no evil, no pain, no worries.

2. Here in the crossing of your arms,
Could there be anything else that I need?
Nothing discourage, nothing depress me.

3. You are the star of the ocean,
My boat is small and the waves are so high.
But with you to guide me I’ll reach my homeland.

4. You are the dawn of a new day,
For you give birth to the Son of the Father.
All of my lifetime I’ll walk beside you.
