Hello dearest listener,

I just got back from Palm Springs where I had the stress/honor of helping host
TedWomen2018. Yes, I saw a Neutra house and definitely heard some "ideas worth spreading"....but my crazy schedule meant two things:

1. I recorded this week's show from my hotel closet. Yay! (see pic below)

2. I sent last week's newsletter at midnight instead of the usual 6am EST. As a result, half the usual number of people opened it! Fascinating! Lesson learned--habits matter.

Today, I'm back on track and so deeply pleased to introduce you to Julia Angwin. The investigative reporter who makes Facebook sweat and who just got $20 million from Craig Newmark (yeah, as in Craig's List) to build her own badass newsroom.

Hear her vision for a new kind of watchdog journalism and the painfully honest lowdown on how she beats decision fatigue as a founder and a parent... it's not all black turtlenecks and green smoothies, but it's close....

You'll notice a little extra episode in your podcast feed this week:

Jen put together a weirdly wonderful audio mash-up to thank anyone who made a donation (or just sent us good vibes) during
Radiotopia's ongoing fundraiser. It's chugging along but still needs your support... and one of the gifts is drinks with us in Brooklyn! Treat yourself? We're pretty fun ;)

Gratefully yours,
x Manoush

P.S. Missed last week's show? GO BACK. It's so worth hearing how Phoebe and Lauren, the makers of the podcast CRIMINAL, think about running a business where the product is creativity.

P.P.S. This week, our friends at
Accurat made data and art by analyzing what listeners most email us about and how those topics relate to gender...
