FLC 2019

Applications Are Open!

The Office of the Provost is welcoming applications and nominations for the 2019 Faculty Learning Community until December 14 2018. The FLC theme this year is Augmented Reality and Spacial Computing. Incentives include an educational research fund and support for a course load reduction.

VR Assignments

This November, University of Miami News featured curricula innovations from Philosophy and Art History faculty employing virtual reality assignments, supported by the LIFE team and the Creative Studio.

 
TECHNOLOGY INVESTIGATION

Learning Analytics

Learning Analytics involves studying data about key stakeholders in education to better understand and enrich the learning process. For this investigation, we partnered with Data Services Librarian, Cameron Riopelle.

Teaching Event

This Fall break, we welcomed 110 attendees from UM and partner institutions. We featured breakout sessions, learning circles and a showcase festival, celebrating educational development at the U.

 

RECOMMENDED RESOURCES

Since our last newsletter, we've investigated technologies and resources relavent teaching and learning in higher education. Here are some of our highlights:

Discussion as a way of teaching: Tools and techniques for democratic classrooms. 2. ed. by Stephen Brookfield and Stephen and Preskill (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass) shares how to plan, conduct, and assess classroom discussions.

A classroom revolution: Reflections on Harkness learning and teaching by Thomas E. Hassan (Phillips Exeter Academy) reveals insights from educators implementing Harkness pedogogies.

Adobe Premiere Rush CC is a recent addition to the Adobe Creative Cloud platform, free to all faculty, students and staff at UM. This video editing software echoes similar features to iMovie, and is available on available on iOS, macOS, and Windows devices.
