November 2018 Meeting Recap - Caren Garner

The evening was blustery but the meeting still took place!

Caren Garner, who has been painting for more than 30 years, presented an awesome demonstration on painting water color flowers in a series. Karen has been an artist for over 40 years.  She started with oil moved to water color and is now working in mixed media.  She brought some samples of her lily series that she has been working on.  A series is 5-10 paintings that work together as a group.  She encouraged CLA members to work on a series because each painting can be about the same subject but you can experiment with different colors and techniques. A series helps you grow as an artist and understand what works best for your style of painting.  On the backgrounds of her paintings she loves to just have fun and not overthink things.  She uses a variety of materials (salt, tissue paper, mica powders, and gauze are just a few of the things she works with). She has found she likes to use the  bold bright color wheel from Bob Burridge. Karen did an art demonstration on one of her lily series paintings.  She also answered lots of questions and gave great advice.
Thank you, Caren!
