Volume 02 Issue 02 - 6th December 2018

 Dear Customer,

Welcome to the latest 'Tech Tips' from Sungrow Australia.

In this issue, we will look at error codes 514 and 084 - Communication error when you are installing an Energy Meter.

We encourage you to read and keep these in a handy place so that you will always have knowledge with you when you are out in the field. And don’t forget our ‘Knowledge Base’ section on our web page which has a full library of installation and troubleshooting docs and videos.

On behalf of the Sungrow Service Team,

Error Code 514 or no reading on the display

Occasionally when commissioning a Hybrid system, the installer may get error codes or no reading on the display.

Faulty energy meters are extremely rare, and in most cases this normally refers to an issue with the RS485 wiring.

There is a 8m length of RS485 cable included in the box. Please use this.
If the distance is longer than 8m (but no more than 100m), you can use Cat5e cable*

(*Please ensure compliance with AS/NZS3000)
Shielded twisted pair RS485 cable may be suitable up to a distance of 200m.

The first check is to see whether the cables are connected correctly.
The terminals on the energy meter for correct connection are:
2 = A (White)
5 = B (Black)

Always give the wires a gentle tug to ensure they are securely connected.

Next, check the RS485 wires are correctly connected in the inverter:
A2 = White and B2 = Black.
The terminal is marked "Meter" & "RS485"

Once again, a gentle tug to ensure secure connection.

Long cable runs (over 50m):
If the distance between the main switchboard and the inverter is longer than 10m, you can use Cat 5e cable.

If the cable run is longer that 50m, the termination resistor DIP switch (2) must be in the 'ON' position

If the distance is longer than 100m, please use correct shielded twisted pair RS485 cable which is available from all cable distributors.

Please note that the maximum allowable cable lengths:

200m if Shielded RS485 cable is used
100m if Cat5e is used.

LED's on the energy meter:
There are 2 LED's on the energy meter. These can both be used to confirm correct installation:

Error code 084:
When you get an Error code 084, this normally means the CT is reverse direction, or there is an existing PV system on the same phase which has not been 'Enabled' in the Hybrid settings.

Check the direction of the CT making sure that the arrow points towards the house:

If there is an existing PV system on the same phase:

Enter the settings menu and select "Existing System"

Select "Enable" and enter the existing inverter size in Watts (Set export if necessary)

Restart the inverter.

Xmas holiday closure:

The Sungrow office and warehouse will be closed from Saturday the 22nd of December 2018 and will re-open on Wednesday 2nd of January 2019.
