Below is the list of courses run by Cylia and David Rudland at East Surrey Bees. Many members have attended their courses and they come highly recommended.

Mead Making Day

Saturday 26th January 2019 

This is very largely a practical day where we take you through the whole process, from making the must to sampling some we made earlier.

Candle Making Day

Sunday 24th February 2019

Another largely a practical day that looks at methods for producing beautiful candles, by rolling, dipping and moulding. Necessary theory is covered and you can take your candles home with you.

Using Microscopes in Beekeeping

Sunday 17th March 2019

Using microscopes to identify Nosema and Acarine and making slides for pollen identification. 

Please note that MVBKA will also be running a Nosema Day again near the end of the season.

Spring into the Bee Season

Sunday 24th March 2019

Join us for a practical day where we go through the essential preparations for getting your colonies ready for the active bee season. Comb changing techniques, swarm control and varroa control techniques will all be covered.

Bee-keeping Taster Days

Saturday 27thApril and Sunday 14th July  

Designed for those who are contemplating taking up beekeeping; we cover the time, effort and costs involved of setting up a colony and maintaining healthy bees. We go inside hives of different sizes and types so that you can judge which might be best for you and we sample a range of hive products.  

Please note that MVBKA will be running a Taster Day in June this year if someone you knows would prefer a Hampshire location
 

Queen Rearing Day

Sunday 19th May 2019

Experience a variety of queen rearing methods; for those with some beekeeping experience. An expanded version of the queen rearing delivered at the Spring Convention.

Further Bee keeping/ Basic Exam Course

Tuedays from 7pm starts 21st May  

Beyond beginners, this develops practical handling and topics like disease control, swarming and honey production. 

Please note for MVBKA members there will be a course running in Hampshire for those wanting to do their Basic Exam in 2019.

Disease Day

Saturday 29th June 2019

We have a licence to handle live frames of notifiable disease as well as looking at other pathogens that affect our colonies.


 

Extraction Day

Saturday 6th July 2019

For those new to having honey to take off, we go through all the stages from hive to jar in our teaching apiary and extraction and bottling room; after lunch we look at the legalities of selling honey.

All day courses include a ploughman’s lunch and usually run from 10am to 4pm.
