Fall 2018 Update

This has been another impactful and influential year at Frontier Lodge.  One of 83 years!   Campers and staff for both Day and Overnight camps filled the grounds, the waterfront, the cabins, the dining hall, and the chapel, with life and activity.

We even had to move the chapel sessions for several of our camps to the dining hall to accommodate the amount of people.   We saw staff rise to the challenges before them in their individual roles.  We saw staff step up and take on added responsibility.  We saw campers engaged with their counselors and speakers.  We saw campers being challenged and learning new things.

Most importantly we saw campers give their lives to Christ or renew their faith.  We also saw others offer their time, funds, and other resources to help facilitate all that goes into making camp run.  Due to this, we felt we had more impact in equipping both staff and campers in understanding their place in the church, and the significance of engaging the world with the Gospel.  God was at work through Word and Spirit.
Hopefully, at the end of the day, people saw the Body of Christ coming together as one united in Him to do His work.  However, for a better glimpse of the year, we will leave it to the videos below that take us from staff preparation back in March, right through Family Camp in June, and ending with Senior Camp (Teen Camp) in August.
This Fall has been a busy one.  We have had the privilege of visiting churches, participating in staff development and training in conjunction with Camp Livingstone and Parkside Ranch, holding staff get-togethers, launching a Frontier Lodge program in Coaticook that will hopefully flow in and out of our Summer Day Camp program, and preparing for next year!  One of the areas we hope to develop is a Leader in Training/Counselor in Training program!  We will have more info on that program soon!
On the theme of LIT/CIT... Last week we were at a CCI Canada conference (Christian Camping International) where 350 directors and other camp staff from across Canada came together.  Among everyone, we ran into Ruth Lewis!  Ruth led LIT programs at Frontier Lodge in the 90’s and the effect of those can be seen in today’s local ministries.  It was great to meet with Ruth and discuss the impact and influence of LIT programs!

We are constantly amazed at the impact of camp ministry over the decades and specifically Frontier Lodge.  Also, at the CCI conference we met Peter and Barbara Bloom.  They were the recipients of a Lifetime Achievement Award for their contribution to Christian camping ministry.  The reason this impacted us was due to Peter giving his life to the Lord at Frontier Lodge in the early 50’s.  Peter and Barbara would go on to serve through Ontario Pioneer Camps.  It was very encouraging to meet them.  Thanks to Ruth for introducing us!

This year, we are excited to announce that Renée Cyr is the recipient of the James Wilson Leadership Trust.  Camp overflows with fun. At the same time, camp has the potential to become a stressful environment as there are constant deadlines to meet, variables affecting scheduling, staff involved in activities, and working alongside those that may not take the responsibility as seriously.  It is within this context that Renée’s consistent steward leadership, executed in service to those entrusted to her, shone brightly.
Renée was present daily to work with those younger than her using her gifts to shape and guide them as they collectively offered themselves to the Lord for His purposes.  Excuses or complaints such as tiredness, differing personalities, or a damaged knee suffered at the beginning of camp could have been at the forefront.  However, her leadership was one of grace, service, and a compassionate understanding of where others were coming from.  Renée went above and beyond in her faithfulness to the task at hand, and it was noticed as others desired to follow her and affirmed Renée as a deserving recipient.
Who was James Wilson?

We want to say thanks to the staff, volunteers, and donors for this past year!  We appreciate the opportunity to serve you in serving the Lord and hope that we’re able to provide a framework for you to use your gifts and resources as you grow in your faith and knowledge of the Lord.   We have been making plans for 2019 so be sure to watch for the information in the days and weeks to come!

Lastly, if you would like to speak with us, invite us to your church, or simply discuss how you could be involved at Frontier Lodge, please do not hesitate to contact us.  We can use volunteers at various times through the year to drive, build, clean, cook, mentor, etc.  We can use funds to facilitate programs, scholarships, and building projects, that would help further the impact of Frontier Lodge. Most importantly, we need people to pray that those involved in stewardship of camp would have wisdom moving forward.  That God’s Kingdom will come, and that His will be done.
