Put Australian Food Safety Week 2019 into your calendar

Thanks to everyone who has made Australian Food Safety Week 2018 such a success. We have had a great run in the media so far including an interview on Channel 7’s Morning Show and several ABC radio interviews – click here  to check out the media coverage. The TV and radio spots are running until the end of January. Next up will be our Christmas and summer entertaining advice which will go out mid-December 2018.

We greatly appreciate sponsorship for this year’s Australian Food Safety Week from Food Standards Australia New Zealand for our radio announcements and SA Health and Omnipoll for our consumer research and Cater Care for our design work.

The dates for next year’s Australian Food Safety Week have been set as 9 to 16 November 2019 so don’t forget to put that in your calendar. We will be deciding on the theme at our Planning Day to be held by mid 2019.

Comings and goings

Dr Duncan Craig, long-term member of our Technical Group, is moving on to take up a posting as Agriculture Counsellor at the Australian Embassy in Beijing. We’d like to thank Duncan for his amazing contribution to the Food Safety Information Council over the years especially in building up our membership. We wish him well in his new role.

After an amazing 7 years, Dr Trish Desmarchelier OAM is also standing down as Chair of the Technical Committee although she will still be enthusiastically involved in the committee’s work. Cathy Moir, our highly experienced Deputy Chair and Group Leader CSIRO Agriculture and Food, will be the new Committee Chair.

Times change and after significant giving of her time and skills, Rebecca Bowman from the NSW Food Authority has stood down from the Communication Committee and we thank her for her contribution too, she will remain a member. This enabled Deborah Stephenson, Communications Manager for Safe Food Queensland to grab the opportunity to increase her contribution and she has kindly agreed to join the Communication Committee

Are you a professional communicator and do you want to make a difference? An opportunity exists for you to  join our team of volunteers?

For the coming year our Board has decided to give priority to expanding our Communications Committee to cover our increasing campaign work. While the position is not remunerated, we can offer you a raft of experience in a committed team and a lot of fun. We need people with a range of professional communication skills including media relations, writing, science communication, marketing, social media, websites, SEO, graphic design, advertising and social research. You can choose the number of hours you want to contribute and when you wish to work. We are an agile organisation so it doesn’t matter where you are located in Australia. We’d love to hear from you just email your CV or request for further information to director.communications@foodsafety.asn.au
