Airport Open House - December 8th (9am to 2pm)


In case you have not seen the signs and banners around town, VASI along with EAA and other Airport businesses are hosting an Open House this Saturday December 8th from 9am to 2pm.  We encourage all members to pass the word along to their friends and neighbors.



There will be static displays and hot dogs courtesy of VASI.  There will be pilots on hand to answer any questions that the public may have about learning to fly, pilots as good neighbors or to flying in and out of KVNC.  You can also direct them to the following resources off the website (Students /  Residents / Pilots)

Volunteers Needed:  As always the open house won't be the same without a strong presence from our VASI members and volunteers.  We encourage you to show up and proudly wear your VASI shirts, caps and name tags to show your support for the Airport.  If you don't have any then you can place an order on the website's storefront and we will get one to you at the open house.  You can browse and place your order online at the VASI Storefront by click here.

43RD Venice Holiday Parade a Great Success

Some 20 volunteers from EAA, VASI and Angel Flight participated in the 43rd Venice Holiday parade in down town Venice, FL on Saturday November 24th.

Venice Airport Opponents and Proponents Speak Up in the Newspaper


The Venice Airport was in the Letters to the Editor section of the Gondolier Sun recently and we offer you coverage of that at a recent post on the website.  A resident is complaining about the noise and wishing away the airport while two other residents remind the writer of the facts.

As you will read in the post on the website, while we enjoy a period of calm and good relations with residents, businesses and the city council, challenges may come suddenly and from anywhere.

In this particular case we would like to thank our member Chuck Schmieler and resident Joyce Phillips for their vigilance and quick actions.  If you see them around town be sure and thank them in person too and be sure an renew your membership for 2019 so that VASI can continue to operate as your advocate.

Pilots beware -- those pesky checklists serve a purpose


If you haven't heard yet a resident of North Port had a mishap while Hang Gliding in the Swiss Alps.  On his first day of his vacation and on his wife's behest he took on a tandem hang gliding ride with an experienced pilot who did the checklist rehearsal twice on the ground but failed to secure his passenger's harness when they were ready for take off!  Luckily there were no fatalities but I certainly cringed watching.

I'm sure we have all had situations where we caught a checklist omission - maybe we were sure we had it right since we executed that checklist a thousand times in our own airplane,  or a borrowed aircraft was ever so slightly different or the most common of them all -- the passenger did the classic "what does this do?"

My CFI had this drill of verbalizing the checklist from memory and then actually doing an exaggerated pulling out of the checklist and going through the list again one by one.
