Hi <<First Name>>

"Last weekend was a tale of two sides.
Our Premiers were left frustrated and disappointed by a lackluster display against Eden Roskill.
On the other hand, our Premier Reserves side had a marvelous victory over Eden Roskill which gets their two day campaign right back on track.

For the Premiers it was a cause of a job half done really. We are putting together some good performances with the ball and in the field especially. However, we are now developing a trend of middle-order collapses with the bat which we simply must address. On the positive front, it was great to see two of our spearheads in Carl Brunga and Gus McKenzie hit form with the ball - which bodes well heading back into the limited overs format.
We are all excited to get back to a genre of cricket the boys have had tremendous success in.

Finally I would like to congratulate Sam Hinds on his maiden hundred for the Premier Reserves - a fantastic achievement and a demonstration of what hard work can bring. "

Another day for Ducks.

And then, drama...

Premiers
The match last weekend was a Saturday/Sunday top of the table clash against Eden Roskill.
The start of Day One was delayed until early afternoon due to temperamental weather with the covers coming off then back on again. Shore won the toss, electing to field in the meantime.
Play eventually started around 2.15pm and there was about 27 overs bowled before bad weather set in again and ended the day with Roskill getting through to 86-4. The only real down side was when Captain Mike Olsen turned his ankle and had to leave the field for treatment.
Day Two left Roskill just over two hours to bat in the morning session, but the innings was wrapped up prior to lunch with Simon McGowan picking up three and a notable special catch from Asiri Wickramanayake.
This left Shore a total of just 162 to chase down and the remainder of the day to bat. Easy, you'd think.

Things started well for the Shore, with a good 52 run partnership between Baard and Beghin and Shore raced through to 79-1. However, a collapse of six wickets for just 19 runs meant the boys were struggling at 98-7, still 64 runs to get and only three wickets in hand.
But then a great fighting back partnership of 47 from injured skipper Michael Olsen - batting on one leg - and Carl Brunger brought Shore within grasp of the first innings win. With just 17 runs to get the heroic innings of Olsen (40) came to an end. Almost
immediately, Ben Wall fell for two and then, disastrously, Tim Duncraft was clean bowled first ball, leaving a disconsolate Carl Brunger at the other end, not out on 17.
It was a tense, nail-biting last hour that had everyone riveted to their seats.
But it wasn’t to be. Shore fell 15 runs short.

Shore have a chance to get one back over Eden Roskill this weekend at home in the shorter format.

Footnote:
Last night, on a wet and windy day at Windsor Park we started our campaign for a third T20 championship.
Bays won the toss and batted first. Some early chances went down but the run rate stayed in check. A great overall bowling effort and fielding stint, especially one outstanding running backwards catch from the old timer Ben Wall, restricted bays to 114 off 20 overs.
The run chase started well up the top and with the team at 99/2 things looked comfortable. But in a dramatic turn of events a mass collapse happened losing 5-13 in three overs. In a fitting way, the winning runs were wides. Plenty to work on, but a win none the less.

Reserves
Coming into the round Shore were keen to put in a strong performance and gain some points against Eden Roskill. Unfortunately, just like day two against Waitakere, rain would have the final say on day one and the teams were unable to take the field. However as Sunday rolled around and the skies cleared and with a point to prove they wanted to come at Roskill hard. The day started perfectly when the specialist captain won the toss on a greenish looking wicket that had been sweating undercovers for the better part of two days. Without any hesitation Shore opted to bowl.
Shore started strongly, with Angus Frew doing the ultimate double bluff to Roskill opener by sending down a "nasty" short ball on a green, pitch it up type wicket, tying him in a knot and Matty Strain fresh off a series of hikes covered good ground to snare it. The day continued to get better as just a few overs latter, a bit of nip away had Frew claim his second victim. A brief lull occurred as Roskill struggled to make anything happen but that soon was broken as a ball was hit into orbit before settling in Rory Bessells hands at point. Not fully satisfied yet Frew struck once more with a catch going behind the wicket. Syme chipped in with a token wicket trapping a player on the pads, a reward for running into the gale force wind at his discretion, a fact noted by the team.
Matty Strain continued the theme of North Shore bowlers mantra of not leaving it to others by taking a caught and bowled by holding onto a ball drilled back at him. The rig based selection of Newey paid dividends after a spell of toiling away, leading to an edge nicely snatched by Doug Bradley. Unable to be kept out the game, Doug secured a run out ruining both the batsmen day and subsequently his bat as he left the field. Continuing onwards Matty showed that if it seams it spins by handing out a first baller, caught in the slips.
With the chance of a fiver on the line Frew steamed in to claim a personal best by extracting the sole resistance of the Roskill innings ending up with a well deserved 5 - 25, with Roskill making 107.
With a finger injury occurring to usual opener James O'Brien, Sam "Jeff Goldblum" Hinds (at right) was asked to step up. Its safe to say that anyone watching the knock would have nothing but admiration for the composure shown by him. The innings started off with the loss of an early wicket but stabilised when Mitch Bremner and Hinds combined adding 32 in quick time. Unfortunately Bremner fell for 25 with another falling soon after. Andy Strain and Hinds continued to keep the score card ticking before Andy was dismissed against the run of the play. With the score being 72 - 4 and Roskill sensing an opportunity there was a buzz in the air. Enter Matty Strain. The pair added an unbeaten 158 runs, punishing the bowlers around the park. Not only did this pair secure first innings but 2 additional bonus points by reaching 230 runs, fighting against the clock to do so. An incredible achievement by the lads showing great strength and determination. Along the way Sam Hinds notched up the first reserve hundred of the season finishing 128 not out, while Matty enjoyed an unbeaten 58, a reward for the both of them having been putting in the hard yards at training.

Next week marks the return of one day cricket where Shore will be looking to get one over Parnell at Orakei and continue to lead the competition.

Sportslink International Premier Reserve NSCC/TDCC
Our team travelled to Melville Park on a blustery Saturday afternoon to play current table toppers Parnell. NSCC/TDCC batted first, Openers Anna Browning and Melita Tu’isila were together until the 4th over when Melita was caught on 10. This brought Sam Petherick to the crease. Unwell all week Sam still wasn’t feeling in top form. Her health may not have been top notch but her batting was. While Anna secured one end before finally being dismissed with only two balls to go in the game for 32, Sam fired shots to all parts of the ground. Sam finished on 83* off 51 balls including thirteen 4’s and two 6s. After 20 overs NSCC were 151/3.
In reply Parnell got off to a flyer before Hetali Patel was dismissed for 57 off 28 balls caught Anna off the bowling of Georgie Shanahan. Good innings from Ella Drumm (31) and E Farrell (21) kept Parnell in reach but at the end of the 20 they finished short on 139/3. The other two wickets were to a caught and bowled from Sam and another catch to Anna off the bowling of Mya Kingi.
This coming Saturday the team play Howick Pakuranga on Devonport Domain No3.

3rd Grade
Back to one day cricket playing Papatoetoe out at Papatoetoe. We started off on a positive note, winning the toss and electing to bat first on a deck which was hard with a little bit of grass coverage. We were excited to get some runs on the board and defend a total!
Play started well as openers Elliot Corbell and Toby Robb, saw the shine off the ball, Toby making a solid 20 with Shore batting well through the middle overs. Conditions were tough, extremely windy and with an uncut outfield we had to work for our runs. Everyone made contributions but no one was able to make a big impact. We lasted 45 overs and we were defending 144 which could easily be 200 on any other ground.
Papatoetoe battled well, helped by fielding errors and a few crucial dropped catches that needed to be taken! Papatoetoe’s run rate at drinks was slow but they had wickets in hand, 75 for 1. We knew with a couple of wickets we could get something done. Rory Bessell bowled well without any Mahi.. consistently beating the bat but we needed to bowl well at both ends to apply some pressure and get back on top. We couldn’t make the breakthroughs we needed, falling short and losing by seven wickets.

We Believe. Do you?

Congratulations to our partners!
