Principal's corner

A note from Mr. Mayer

1. Homework link is now up! Shout out to our School Counselor – Ms. Riley. You can now find out what the homework is for any of our four core academic classes in any grade – go to this link

2. School Wide Reading Challenge – Race to 1000 and beyond!!  As you know, the SRI is a fairly accurate indicator of a student’s reading level. As we roll out our third annual “Race to 1000” trying to get everyone to go over a 1000 SRI score – we are adding some new things to the mix.

a. Know your score – once you know you score – you know your goal.

b. Reading log – read every day. All grades will be doing reading logs in their English classes.

c. 30 for 30 Schoolwide Technology Free Challenge! Go Old School – back in the day there were no cell phones or computers. Can your family take the 30 for 30 reading challenge? For 30 days, the family sets aside 30 minutes where there is no phone use, no computer use, no video use, and the whole family reads for 30 minutes. I guarantee that students who take this challenge and pledge will instantly see their reading level grow by up to ½ year or more in just 30 school days.

d. Student rewards for advisory — We have had about 16 of our 24 advisories have 100 percent of the students with a book and reading when we went into their classes. We celebrated this achievement with a raffle for a class pizza party at each grade level at our assemblies.

3. Serving detention Please remind your child that if they receive a detention- for in class behavior, for being tardy, for violent play or any detention- they must serve it. Refusing to go to detention or serve detention can and will result in a suspension.

4. Homework clubs are available for everyone, talk with your child if they are struggling with homework. More info here.

5. Please join us for our Fall Achievement Night on Dec. 13th. Come join us as we celebrate our volleyball, flag football and cross country teams, as well as introduce our 2018-19 girls and boys basketball teams! There will be dinner served, drinks, a special parent education breakout session, and just general celebration!! Childcare will be provided. 6-7:30 on 12/13 in the gym.
