November Climate Summary

It was a month of extremes across the Prairies. The western Prairies were warm and snowy/wet, while the eastern Prairies were cold and dry. The Prairies were actually the transition zone for the entire country, separating the warmth along the west coast from the cold in the east.
Winnipeg and Brandon were the coldest major cities on the Prairies relative to normal, while Edmonton and Calgary were both warmer than normal. Interestingly, it was actually the warmer western areas that experienced more precipitation than normal. Usually in winter, colder areas also tend to be associated with heavier precipitation. One important note is regarding Winnipeg's precipitation total: The weighing gauge at the Winnipeg Airport has been malfunctioning for several months and significantly under-reported the amount of snow during the month's largest precipitation event on November 28-29. Therefore, this total should be considered suspect and should not be used for official purposes.
