Flooding closes state routes in Crisp and Dooly counties
Flooding has closed some Interstate 75 ramps in Crisp County and two state routes in Crisp and Dooly counties.
Torrential rain has caused Gum Creek to flood, creating issues at I-75 exit 104 and on state Routes 257 and 7. Here is what's closed:
I-75 Exit 104/Farmer's Market Road in Crisp County – northbound on ramp and southbound off ramps are closed.
US 41/SR 7 – closed from Cordele in Crisp County to Vienna in Dooly County. The Gum Creek bridge in Cordele is impassable due to flooding. Local traffic may access areas on either side of the bridge. All other traffic is being directed onto I-75. Signs are directing motorists.
SR 257 – closed from I-75 in Crisp County to SR 215 in Dooly County. The road may be closed for several days because shoulders are going to have to be rebuilt due to erosion.
The rain has let up and once water recedes Georgia Department of Transportation crews will inspect roadways and bridges to make sure they are safe to reopen to traffic. Meanwhile, motorists are urged not to drive around barricades. Road closure information is available on the 511 app or www.511ga.org.
