The One-Of-A-Kind Christmas Tree Will Be Auctioned Off for Charity 

For the third year, The Upper House has commissioned a uniquely-curated Christmas tree to raise money for a local Hong Kong charity and is excited to reveal this year’s collaboration with Hong Kong-based industrial design artist Michael Young. An auction for the Christmas Tree will open for bidding until the end of 2018 with all proceeds benefiting The Child Development Centre, a Hong Kong charity that provides support to a wide spectrum of children with Special Educational Needs. The auction aims to reach bidders globally and surpass the funds raised in 2017 of HK$130,000.

This year, The Upper House Christmas Tree sets the mood for a spectacular festive celebration at the house. The 3-meter Christmas Tree is composed of polished stainless steel with white enamel surfaces. Based on a new furnishing collection for Design Miami 2018 (5 - 9 December), Michael has meticulously taken the Chinese traditional cloisonné techniques and applied to copper, developing an innovative formulation that will allow the enamel to bond with steel, the pattern of which is integral to the structure and form.

“I was so empowered to receive the design invitation and just took my pen out during the first meeting and drew the tree on the spot,” said Michael Young. “It is also very close to my heart to help children in need through this collaboration.”
