Public spaces: Available and Accountable to the Public

Get inspired by Magacin, one of the first-ever grantees of our pilot project FundAction. Magacin is a self-organized common space that operates outside the mainstream public or commercial sectors, accommodates communities, and has great social and cultural value in the city. Follow their Instagram-takeover, or read our conversation with the minds behind Magacin on our website.

Get to know the foundation's new director

“I am a child of Europe, and like many of us, I have my very own personal European history. I have experienced Europe, have traveled it extensively. There were problems and crises, there were detours and flaws: such is life. (...). This Europe, imperfect as it is, is the best thing we have built in the last centuries.”
André Wilkens in a conversation with his editor Ulrike Holler

Ideas come to life with our R&D Grants

We're especially proud to present the work of our Research & Development grantee Alessio Mazzaro. With the grant he reopened the Edinost, a Slovenian newspaper printed in Trieste (Italy), that gave voice to the first anti-fascist movement in Europe. You can now download the first edition of the new Edinost!

The revolution of fraternity by Bas Mesters
In 2017, the angry citizen was supposed to topple the political establishment at the elections in the Netherlands, France, Great Britain and Germany. Europe was supposed to erupt. Until now it never happened. Dutch journalist Bas Mesters set out to investigate and found the seeds of a revolution of fraternity. Mesters spoke to changemakers who not only dare to dream of new democracies but live them. Read our conversation about the project and excerpts of his essays on our website.
