Impact Report 2015-18

We've launched our Impact Report for 2015-18. The report provides an overview of the range of support delivered by Museum Development North East between April 2015 and March 2018, supporting over 60 museums across the region.

Northern Museums Volunteer Pass Scheme 2019-21

A reminder that you have until 14 January 2019 to sign up to the Northern Museums Volunteer Pass Scheme for 2019-21.

The scheme is a mutually beneficial partnership between participating museums and entitles volunteers to free entry, and/or other benefits, at participating museums across the North West, North East and Yorkshire and Humberside regions.

Back to Basics: Volunteer Management

Date: 16 January 2019, 10am - 2.30pm (lunch provided)
Venue: The Prince's Trust Cheryl's Trust Centre, 53-57 Blandford Square, NE1 4HZ

This session will equip managers and coordinators with the skills and confidence needed to effectively manage volunteers, so that they can make meaningful contributions which match the needs of the museum they volunteer for.  The day will cover:

  • Getting the best out of the volunteers you have
  • What motivates volunteers and tapping into those motivators
  • Best management style(s) to use
  • Promoting a culture of positive development and learning

Museum Accreditation - Planning your Return or Application

Date: 30 January 2019, 10am - 1pm (lunch provided)
Venue: Discovery Museum, Carpathia Room

Arts Council England has recently launched the revised Accreditation standard, this session will explore the implications of this for your museum, as well as an overview of the three areas of Accreditation; organisational health, collections and audiences.

Surgery sessions of 30 minutes are available in the afternoon. If you have a specific query you wish to discuss, please book a slot.

VON Meeting

Date: 31 January 2019, 10am - 2pm (lunch provided)
Venue: Laing Art Gallery

The Volunteer Organisations’ Network (VON) is a forum for volunteer-run museums that meets three times a year. The Network provides the opportunity for volunteer-run museums to exchange knowledge, receive training and keep up to date with sector developments.

This session will focus on Accreditation.
