The President’s Message

As I write, I am sitting in the midst of a number of unfinished holiday sale items, but when our newsletter is released, our fiber arts projects will be happy memories and we will be planning our celebration potluck.  Thank you to Sandy for opening her home on December 13th, and thank you to our holiday chairs, Ellen and Barb; to our set-up crew, led by Pam; to our publicity team of Cathy, Kelly, Sharon, and Annette; to our treasurer, Bonnie, for all her extra time; and to all the artists, workers, and buyers who make this sale a guaranteed success.  Also, we appreciate our generous and accommodating Bogie Lake Greenhouse hosts for providing this charming sale location.
As the season progresses, I wish all our members rich and memorable holidays.  Our next meeting will be January 3rd of the new year.  Board members, let's plan to meet at 6:00 for a brief pre-meeting session.

Transforming Fabric by Karen Turckes

Karen is a full time fiber artist and teacher. She has worked with textiles all of her life and is a graduate of the Clothing and Textiles program at Michigan State University as well as the Art Cloth Mastery Program in San Antonio, Texas. She dyes her own cloth and adds layers of depth to the fabric using paint, soy wax, fabric manipulations and other surface design techniques. Turckes is the owner of Windberry Studio, a private studio in Michigan. Her artwork has been exhibited at Art Prize as well as nationally. Her website is Windberry.com.
 ARTFUL NUMBERS
Karen Schaefer has developed a unique idea for a colorful table numbering system that will insure all our pass-around information gets to everyone at all the tables during our meetings. Double-sided stand-up numbers will be designed and crafted by a variety of cheerful volunteers in a medium of their choice.  The exciting unveiling of Artful Numbers will be at the January meeting.
Volunteers for crafting numbers are Elisabeth Lindsay, Sharon Clark, Cathy Greenhalgh, Cindy Geist, Debbie Nachtegall, Karen Schaefer, Cheri Skomra, Annette Shaffer, Sharon Howitt, Bonnie Dimitry, Mary Bajcz, Sarah Tierney, Lisa Davis, and Darlene Murray.

A workshop presented by Sulky will be presented in the normal meeting room from 2-6 PM on Nov 9. There was discussion of interests for 2019 workshops, among them one on knitting and dyeing of fabric. We were reminded of the scholarships available to members.  The deadline is March.  Our organization asks that recipients tell some of what they learned at their class during a monthly meeting.
