Dear Friends of St. Timothy’s,
“There shall be a root of Jesse
And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles,
In Him the Gentiles shall hope.”
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Romans 15:12b-13 -
As we lit the first candle in our advent wreath, symbolizing the hope we have as Christians, we learned that this theological virtue is not just wishful thinking about something that may or may not happen, but an unshakable trust and confidence that God’s promises will be fulfilled. Our hope as Christians is based on what God has already done for us in Christ, through His death and resurrection. Hope looks to our certain future, based on confidence in Christ’s work on the cross. He is our certain hope. Hallelujah!
Our common aim to glorify Christ, and lead our children towards wisdom and virtue, brought the St. Timothy’s community together in our inaugural Starry Night Gala on November 10th. The "Stars" of the night really shone through, from those up front providing such beautiful, fun, and high-quality entertainment; to those who organized the silent auction and were inventive about suggesting items; to those who did the decorating, set up, and sound system; to those who maybe went beyond their comfort zones and invited friends to attend. The evening was a lovely reflection of the truth, goodness, and beauty that characterizes St. Timothy’s.
The evening not only brought in over four times more money than any previous fundraiser (over $16,500) but in addition, ties were renewed with alumni, parents, board members, friends, and supporters of the school from over the years. Many of these people have given so much to lay the foundation for and establish the school that we currently enjoy. It was a delight to see so many people from Ottawa and beyond who have a special place in their hearts for St. Tim's all in the same room. Thank you for your support.
Looking into next year, we are excited to announce our first St. Timothy’s Classical Christian Educators Conference on March 15th, with our special guest speaker, Martin Cothran from the CiRCE Institute. We are inviting staff from the other classical, Christian schools in Ontario to join us for this day. Mr. Cothran taught Latin, logic, rhetoric, and classical studies at the Highlands Latin School for many years, is managing editor for The Classical Teacher magazine, is on the board of the CiRCE Institute, and is a regular speaker with the Classical Consortium. On Saturday, March 16th, Mr. Cothran will give a talk for parents, homeschooling families, and others in Ottawa who are keen to discover more about classical, Christian education. Please save the date on your calendars. More information will be available in the new year.
In this Advent season, I pray that you know more deeply the sure and certain Hope that we have in Christ, our Saviour.
Jenny
