Year 13 students at Debden Park High School were put through their paces with mock interviews that tested everything from their knowledge of their subject to their ability to interpret and answer open-ended and thinking questions.
The interviews were held ahead of their university entrance interviews.
The students - a mix of those applying to Oxbridge, Medicine or Veterinary degrees - were tested as a part of a series of mini-interviews with subject specialists and external experts.
Director of Sixth Form Joe Simm said: "Interviews can be very daunting, especially when so much is potentially at stake as is the case for university applicants.
“We have some superb students applying to Oxford and Cambridge, or to study veterinary or medicine, and we want to give them the best chance to show this off at their upcoming interviews."
The interviews, which looked to closely mirror the interview process that many of the students are about to embark on, allowed them a chance to practice answering questions about themselves, their application and their knowledge of their subjects.
Mr Simm added: "We would like to wish all our university candidates the best of luck in their UCAS applications, especially those who have to interview for their place.
"We have a fantastic student body who are committed to being successful in their A-Levels and beyond.
"We have total faith in the strength of their applications and I have no doubt our Year 13s will be leaving us in the summer to go on to be the lawyers, doctors, historians and engineers of the future."
