BC Marine Trails December News

Please DonatePlease Donate: BC Marine Trails resources help so many paddlers plan their adventures on the BC coast. Membership fees fund 27% of our Association operations including maintenance of our map and part-time help from an Operational Assistant. Our volunteer hours are through the roof (nearly 6000 hours a year). We also depend on donations to help us through tougher times. If you wish to give a Christmas donation please go to our CanadaHelps donation page.

Successful AGM/Winter Forum
The BCMT held its Annual General Meeting in Nanaimo on Nov. 24. Several members returned to the BC Marine Trails board including our president, Paul Grey, and directors Jerry Kaye, Karen Thrussell and Louise Thompson (also our stewardship chair). Two further directors were named: Robert Holley (our new treasurer) and Allan Edwin (director). The BCMT would like to welcome the returning and new directors. You can see who holds what position here. The AGM was followed by a great speaker, Rebecca Grim, from the Paddling North crew, along with paddling partner Leonie Mahlke by Skype from Germany.

Strategic Plan 2019 - 2022
We are moving forward on the Inside Passage Marine Trail, as well as other high-level plans. In the spring we hope to engage First Nations and the BC government to gain support for the Inside Passage Marine Trail, which will connect the BC coastline. View the strategic plan on our 'About' page on the BCMT website.
MEC Grant: The BC Marine Trails received a grant from the Mountain Equipment Coop to work on two programs: Site Environmental Evaluation Program (SEEP) and a Public Education Program (PEP). The SEEP program will entail development of a training program to properly assess campsites and connecting social trails. The PEP program will work in unison with SEEP. As part of PEP we will engage stakeholders on the development of a Code of Conduct with a focus on important issues such as firepits and human waste. The Code is based on Leave No Trace guidelines.
It's time! We have an attractive calendar produced by Martin Ryer, an outdoor photographer. Profits go the BC Marine Trails. Order now to have it ready for your fridge on Jan.1!
