New Indivisible SF Working Groups

Thanks to the big, bold, beautiful crowd that came out to the Indivisible SF General Assembly on Sunday at Manny’s! True to form, we’re already moving ahead with a slate of exciting new initiatives. Here are some of the dozen working groups that formed:
  • January 3rd National Day of Action: planning a creative, unique and fun event to kick off the first day of the new Congress and promote a progressive agenda.
  • Green Team: focusing on environmental issues at the federal, state, and local levels. Gearing up to take full advantage of the Democratic supermajorities in the State Assembly and Senate.
  • Members of Congress Working Group: developing new strategies and tools for working with our senators and House representatives.
  • Issue Forum Team: producing a series of weeknight talks that will give us deeper understanding of current events and issues.

Don’t despair if you missed the meeting. You can still get involved! Visit the #gen_assembly group on Slack or come to our next meeting to learn more about all of our new working groups and to join the fun.

Indivisible SF this Sunday
Join us at this week’s Indivisible SF General Meeting on Sunday, December 9, 4-6pm at St. Mark’s Church - Urban Life Center. We will have three breakouts:
  • Members of Congress Working Group: working with our leaders in DC to build progressive power and resist the Republican agenda. As constituents of Nancy Pelosi, the next Speaker of the House, we have a unique opportunity and lots of preparation to do.
  • State and Local Working Group: building state advocacy. We have a Democratic trifecta in Sacramento and here in San Francisco which gives us an opportunity to make meaningful change and model progressivism for the rest of the country.
  • Actions and Events Working Group: getting creative about standing up, speaking out and social activism.
Upcoming Events
Sunday, December 9th, 2 pm: 6th Annual Vigil for Victims of Gun Violence at St. Ignatius Church, 650 Parker Ave., SF.  Join this inclusive gathering which will include speeches from Jackie Speier, London Breed, and Catherine Stefani. Gun violence survivors are invited to bring photos of their loved ones to place on the altar. Please RSVP here.
Local Actions and Allyship Opportunities
Write postcards for Virginia’s special elections. There are two special elections coming up: one in December and the other in January. Help GOTV by writing friendly, heartfelt postcards to this historically Red state that has shifted Blue in recent elections. Learn more at PostcardstoVoters.org.

Support asylum-seekers. Volunteers and donations are needed at the border right now. This resource list outlines practical ways you can help asylum-seekers who are travelling in the caravan or waiting to cross the border as well as new immigrants newly granted entrance to the U.S. It also offers ways that you can fight the institutional injustices that are driving people to seek asylum here.

Help Camp Fire victims. A makeshift shelter at Chico’s East Ave Church has been housing about 200 evacuees and providing medical care. Many of the evacuees there are elderly or require medical attention, and the church is accepting donations to help offset costs for prescription medicines and other health care needs through its website.

GoFundMe has also set up a page listing the crowdfunding campaigns for the Camp Fire.

The North Valley Community Foundation has two funds: The Camp Fire Evacuation Relief Fund and the Butte County Schools Fire Relief Fund. Donors can make an open gift to the school fund, or designate a specific use, like textbooks or school supplies. Donations are accepted through the foundations’ website.

For more information on how to donate these, see this article.
Nobody is Above the Law
If Special Counsel Robert Mueller is fired or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is impeached, we hit the streets. Sign up now at MoveOn.org to receive updates for a rapid response rally co-organized by Indivisible SF in the event that Trump fires Mueller or Rosenstein. If Trump interferes with the investigation of his 2016 campaign (disregarding the rule of law and our country’s constitution), we will be ready, and you will receive immediate alerts to take action together.

Keep Fighting,

The Indivisible SF Team
