What's Your Sparketype?
I'll set the scene. It's Friday afternoon, it's about 4.30. Time for a little Facebook fun with yet another profile quiz.
I shared my results, reminding everyone that I don't set much store generally by profiling systems (because I think I know who I am already) but that this one was spot on.
I'm going to share some highlights so you can see how spot on it is. And then talk a bit about what, if any, value there might be in this one for you, and give you a link to take it for free. It comes from a good source: Jonathan Fields and The Good Life Project. He's written many good books. One I found especially valuable is called Uncertainty: Turning Fear and Doubt into Fuel for Brilliance.
My Primary Sparketype is The Advisor
"As an Advisor, coaching, mentoring and advising is your call. You light up like nothing else when you play the role of the trusted advisor. The person who swoops in, develops sustained, personal, relationships, most often with individuals or small groups, cultivates trust and confidence and creates the safety needed to coach or guide people, in a hands-on, engaging way toward a desired end.
While you see yourself as someone who is wise and skilled, it's less about teaching a particular body of knowledge and more about the interactive process of guiding people, in a more personalized way, through a process of growth, problem-solving, application and achievement. Your true aspiration is not just to get them to the place they yearn to be, but to also help them develop their own inner-trust and self-reliance, so that, when the time is right, you can step away, watch them soar and engage with others who await a similar "intervention."
Because of this, you can often walk into nearly any setting, industry or field and fairly quickly feel at home, even if you don't have deep domain-specific expertise. You just know your ability to apply your unique lens, focused awareness, and skills as an advisor and mentor are robust enough to give anyone what they need in nearly any endeavour."
Let me say first that there is nothing new in here I didn't already know, but I have never seen it expressed so well. It is such a good description of what I do and who I am it may eventually end up on my website! That middle paragraph explains why I want to talk to each client individually because you are each fascinating and unique, and why I have never created a signature program because it is an interactive process. And also it explains my book which was all about helping clients to develop their own inner trust and self-reliance.
My Shadow Sparketype is The Maven
"Your Shadow Sparketype is The Maven, which means you latch onto a topic, field or industry and devour everything you can know about it. Staying "surface level" just isn't an option for you. It's no fun. You are driven to learn, to discover, to ferret out information, wisdom and knowledge. But, for you, when you're really being honest, that drive is almost always in service of doing the work of your Primary Sparketype at the higher possible level. It's more a means than an end."
I am driven to learn, discover and ferret out information, wisdom and knowledge in service of my work with my clients. Yep. I knew that too.
What then is the value of this knowledge for me?
It reassures.
I knew I was on the right path. I knew I was living my life's purpose but that doesn't mean it is easy. Knowing might be half the battle, see above, but it is useful to have a little reminder that I am doing what I was born to do. And loving it, even when it is tough.
What then is the point of taking tests like this and the value of the results to you?
Most who joined in were not surprised by their results. Some were reassured, others confused. Some were surprised that it worked so well, and one said that the questions were interesting that the exercise wasn't glib (I did say it came from a good source). Some shared that they found other profiling systems more appropriate to them. Others just wanted to share their results, for the craic. Others were able to help each other by explaining the value they found in the same profile results.
We discussed whether or not we were going to spend money to get a deeper report. I'm not. I even opted out of their marketing emails after two or three days, not because they weren't doing a good job, they were, but I know I am not in the market for any more information that doesn't come from my own inner wisdom.
It was a conversation starter, I had a nice long FB Messenger chat with a pal who now lives abroad and wanted to explore what was in it for her. It got her thinking, she said. And quite quickly too, while she was waiting for me to put my contact lenses in, my shoes on and make coffee and meet her on my laptop, about ten minutes in total.
Before talking to her I shared that I didn't think any changes were required in her life and work as she seemed pretty successful and content to me. Our conversation was useful to us both since we share the Maven profile, her primary, my secondary, and we realised that although we could create and share information which we simplify for people, neither of us wants any more sitting down work. We pondered aloud how we could "write" while going for a walk! We enjoyed a meeting of minds and got up to date with each other's news and we discussed the meaning of life. And #Strictly.
Of course, I leapt at the chance to get onto a live chat with her where we could discuss it because this is my primary Sparketype! I would do that whether or not anyone paid me for it. Can't help myself. It's just who I am. It's just my life's purpose and I am living it.

By all means write to let me know your results and how they have helped or further confused, or share them on our discussion here.
