Bitcoin's self-adjustment mining difficulty has lowered the difficulty following significant miner shutdown; the mining difficulty self-adjusts when too many miners shut off their hardware, then the network protocol will lower mining difficulty to compensate for the loss in hash power and decrease competition, and in the inverse, if more miners join the network, then the difficulty will rise; this comes after the hype in price last year caused a number of miners to over-invest in their mining operations, and thus, after the year-long correction a large number of those miners are no longer incentivized to continue their operations - Link
The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has enabled cryptocurrency business to receive "FinTech" licenses that enable them to handle up to $100M in client funds;  FINMA has released a strict set of guidelines crypto businesses must adhere to, to be able to handle these amounts on behalf of clients; Swiss regulators were also the first to approve trade of a Bitcoin-based Exchange Traded Fund late last month - Link
IPC Systems, a US-based trading-communications firm, has partnered with the R3 consortium; IPC Systems hosts Connexus Cloud, a financial markets cloud-based platform for data, voice, and business communications and compliance; the company plans to support the consortium’s Corda blockchain permissioned networks on its Connexus platform; this comes as  26 French companies and five major banks completed a Know Your Customer (KYC) test based on the Corda platform - Link
A leading Ethereum Classic, ETCDEV, development entity has shut down its operations; in a tweet from the ETCDEV announced that the company will hault development as a result of failure to raise enough funds and a market price crash; nn the 2nd of December, the team at ETCDEV had asked the ETC community if they would be willing to help fund operations where 59% answered "no" - Link
Trezor's Satoshi Labs has announced native support for Ethereum and Ethereum Classic within the Trezor GUI wallet; while previously Ethereum private keys could be securely stored on the Trezor hard wallet, but had to be accessed through third parties like MyEtherWallet.comMyCrypto and MetaMask; following this update the wallets can be accessed directly through Trezor's interface without the needs for third-party support - Link
Blockstream has released source code for the smart contracts on blockchain language Simplicity; Simplicity has been built to be compatible with Blockstream’s Elements platform, Elements is an open source, sidechain-capable blockchain platform - Link
The state of Wyoming a bill that allows blockchain companies to gain access to local banking services; the banks in the "equality state" are expected to maintain equal reserves with the value of the deposits stored; on the flipside, however, deposits kept with the "Special Purpose Depository Banks" won't be insured by the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC); Wyoming has passed five blockchain-friendly bills into law earlier in March of 2018 - Link
A new Ethereum scaling proposal, Ethereum 1.0x, has been rallying some support among the Ethereum development community; the proposed upgrade aims to scale the blockchain faster than Vitalik Buterin's proposed Ethereum 2.0; Vitalik had proposed Etheruem 2.0, dubbed "Serenity", at the Ethereum Dev Con 4 with a lengthy roadmap starting in 2020, because of the new design specifications that will take time to activate; Afri Schoedon, the manager for Parity Ethereum client had suggested implementing the 1.0x upgrade on a separate blockchain of its own - Link
Crypto trader was kidnapped, beaten, drugged and tortured for funds in South Africa, local news source reports; the trader was invited to do a presentation on the cryptocurrency in Ntuli Street in Meadowlands Zone Five; he entered the residence to conduct the presentation to four men and two women where he was drugged and tortured until he transferred his Bitcoin - Link
An Ohio tech fund, JumpStart, is looking to invest $100M into early-stage startups that are developing blockchain-based technologies; a $6M business accelerator fund, FlashStarts, has also been set up to provide seed funding to blockchain startups, local Cleveland news reports; the funding has not been officially confirmed the CEO of JumpStart, Ray Leach stated that an additional $200M will be made available for blockchain companies over the next three years - Link
