THE HIGHLIGHTS

Some world leaders are standing up to the law.

TELL ME MORE.

You know Benjamin Netanyahu for being Israel’s right-wing prime minister who’s been in the spotlight lately for alleged corruption and bribery. Hint: accepting (very pricey) gifts, greenlighting regulation to help a telecommunications biz in exchange for control of its news organization, and pinky promising to take down a newspaper’s competition in exchange for - surprise - good coverage. Minor things like that. Netanyahu’s denied everything, but the Israeli police don’t buy it. And yesterday, recommended indicting Netanyahu.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN?

Potentially, a lot of things. It could mean that Netanyahu will step down (like the police are hoping) before next year’s presidential election. It could mean that Netanyahu decides to stick with his job, even if the charges end up going to court. Or it could mean that Netanyahu moves the upcoming election to a sooner date, at a time when a large portion of Israelis are still big fans. Still unclear what route Netanyahu’s looking to take.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Speaking of controversial prime ministers, Sri Lanka’s prime minister - Mahinda Rajapaksa - is taking things to court. Quick refresher: last month, the country voted to out Rajapaksa in two no-confidence votes. Rajapaksa said ‘what’s an official vote anyway?’ and shook his head to leaving. So yesterday, a court temporarily barred Rajapaksa and his cabinet from carrying out official duties. Which is as big of a deal as it sounds. Now, Rajapaksa is appealing and saying the decision’s unfair.

SO…?

Both these prime ministers are creating lots of controversy - with no clear way out. TBD, TBD, TBD.

THE ACTION

POLITICS: All eyes are on special counsel Robert Mueller. Today, Mueller’s expected to unveil court filings on Michael Flynn - Prez Trump’s former national security adviser - and Paul Manafort - Trump’s former campaign chairman. Over the past couple of years, Flynn and Manafort have been at the forefront of the Russia investigation. Now, Americans are looking to get a better picture of what the two men did - and what it means for the White House. In other news, UK Prime Minister Theresa May is under fire after revealing her new Brexit deal with the EU. Now, she’s heading to Parliament to answer any q’s lawmakers may have about the deal.

USA: The 2018 Midterm Election is still in full swing. Recently, it came out that there may have been voter fraud in the North Carolina congressional race. Back it up: North Carolina requires witnesses to sign off on absentee ballots. Problem, since a significant number of absentee ballots were all signed by the same group of witnesses - some of whom have ties to a longtime operative working for the Republican candidate’s campaign. Yes, really. Now, the state is looking into potential voter fraud. Meanwhile, the outgoing governor of Wisconsin (a Republican) is looking to limit the power of the incoming governor (a Dem). He’s not the only one.

WORLD: The other day, Qatar said ‘we’re out’ and announced that it’d be ditching OPEC - the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The country says it wants to focus more on natural gas, something it’s leading at globally. This comes as Qatar’s dispute with Saudi Arabia - the only country it shares a land border with and a big part of OPEC - is escalating. Tension, high. Speaking of which, Denmark just revealed a new plan to move a group of unwanted migrants to an island - without being able to leave. The migrants are made up of people who’ve had their asylum claims rejected and convicted criminals. Intro the controversy.

WHAT TO KNOW

Virgin Galactic:” Richard Branson’s space program. Apparently it’ll take people to space before…Christmas. Baby, it’s outer space outside.

SAY WHAT?

“Part of our Christmas display. Please don’t call 911” - a sign, letting people know a dummy hanging from a roof (think: ‘Christmas Vacation’) is not in need of any help.
