This is the wonderful & dramatic 415km crossing of the Pyrenees Mountain chain between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean:
Hendaye to St Jean Pied de Port
7 nights - From £745/€815 - 6 days walking between hotels & guest houses
This first section, from Hendaye to Saint Jean Pied de Port, covers a variety of landscapes typical of the Basque country, set in the heart of the Atlantic Pyrenees. The scenery has a charm and regional originality that you won’t find elsewhere. Rolling hills, magical villages, such as Sare, Ainhoa and Dancharia that are steeped in Basque tradition, and a rich Pyrenean flora and fauna are all waiting to be discovered.
St Jean Pied de Port to Etsaut
7 nights - £695/€770 - 6 days walking between accommodation
From St Jean Pied de Port in Basque Country the trail weaves its way from village to village, through the French side of the Pyrenees. It is a great opportunity to discover typical villages of the region including Esterencuby or the hamlet of Logibar and then Sainte-Engrace, the most eastern Basque mountain village. From this point on the GR10 enters typically Pyrenean, high mountain landscapes in the Bearn.
Etsaut to Cauterets
7 nights - £715/€785 - 6 days walking between accommodation
From Etsaut you pass through the Pyrenean National Park, walking via the famous chemin de la Mature, you reach the grandiose surroundings of the Ossau valley, with views of the pyramid-shaped Pic de Midi d’Ossau. The trail takes you from Gabas to Arrens valley, passing through the ski resort of Gourette, you encounter a succession of lakes and villages in stone and slate.
