Tomorrow Is One Month On The Road!

Happy Tuesday and welcome to December! Wow, December…That means we have almost been on the road for an entire month! It’s hard to believe it’s already December. We’ve been traveling through some very mild climates, so it really hasn’t felt like Christmas time at all. We’re used to chilly temps and bundling up in December, as we’ve been on the east coast for a while now (the kids have ONLY lived on the east coast).

On our Sunday drive into Big Bend, we listened to Christmas music most of the way in, so that helped a bit. Saturday night we went totally off the grid, with no cell phone signal at all. It was actually really nice! We boondocked in Junction, Texas by the river at Schreiner City Park. We lost service before we got there, but we knew it was on 1st street in Junction, so we just picked an exit (there were only 3) and went towards town! We found it really easily! (We’ve been told to carry a paper map, but hadn't gotten one yet! We finally picked one up the next day)

It was our first boondocking experience outside of our Harvest Host stays. Junction was recommended by some full time friends we met in Austin while we were there.

Boondocking is camping with no hookups. Some people boondock in parking lots, like at a Walmart, or sometimes it can be out in the middle of nowhere, in a beautiful location. We loved our spot last night!

We have a fresh water tank we can use for water, and we have onboard batteries that power all of our ceiling lights. We also ran our generator long enough for us to have a family movie night and watch Home Alone (it was the kid’s first time watching it, and they LOVED it :) Boondocking like that really isn’t roughing it at all!

As I mentioned, we had a week in Austin and then we drove a little over an hour to San Antonio to spend five days there.

We’re really excited to spend 7 days in Lajitas, TX along with some friends we met online and explore all that Big Bend National Park and the wild wild west has to offer! We haven't added pictures from Big Bend to our website yet, but we have posted a few Instagram posts that you can check out below.
