THE  WEEKLY

HERALD

Daphne United Methodist Church

Dear Church Family:

Advent is our journey to Christmas and so we declare with confidence, that words matter.

The Bible is very clear, God spoke and creation came into being. God’s voice resounded before there was anything to see.

The Angel Gabriel speaks to a young girl in Nazareth, with more words from God. “Greetings favored one! The Lord is with you.” Then he tells her that she shall bear a child who will be the Savior of the world. The voice of God speaks of creative redemption.

Mary, in her own response to the mysterious Word of the Lord, began The Magnifcat, that beloved hymn in Luke’s Gospel, with these words“My soul magnifies the Lord…and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.”

As my favorite Advent devotional guide reminds me: “It is not about the calendar or the gifts to purchase, it is all about watching for the Light.” Jesus comes to guide us in making sense of our time, to make sense of the power of love and to seek the world’s illusive gift—Peace on Earth.

But first, we must learn our most significant mission is to stop being so busy and to wait on God.  Perhaps, in our waiting, we will discover that it’s not necessary to perfect Christmas. God’s spoken Word has relieved us of that duty.

Faithfully yours,

bill@dumc.org

Daphne UMC gave 252 Thanksgiving baskets to grateful Prodisee Pantry families this year. Thank you to all who opened your hearts and your wallets.
Mission Trip Meeting - Wednesday, Dec. 5th we will have a short meeting for those interested in going on the mission trip to Costa Rica. We will meet in the Gathering Room in the CLC at 5:45 p.m.
First, let me thank everyone who has already provided a meal for Suellen and Billie!
Next, I would like for you to look at the remainder of December and consider providing another meal or, perhaps, participating for the first time. Frozen casseroles are always an option. This could be prepared and delivered over a weekend for those of you who have obligations during the week. That way Suellen could take it out and use it as needed.
Again, thank you so much for participating! Suellen has expressed how much help these meals have been. She has been so blessed by our show of love to her!

      CHANGE FOR A DOLLAR
This week we helped a family with a utility bill.

We have had a number of requests in recent weeks. If you feel led to give a little extra this month, it might let us help more during the holidays. Thanks.
Sunday, Dec. 9th is our last day to collect toys for the "Marine Corps Toys for Tots" campaign. If you would like to participate, please drop off your toys in the boxes provided by our Welcome Desks. Thank you for your generosity!
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

Daphne UMC would like to honor our own sweet Heather, our personal chef for all our delicious meals. If you would like to drop off a card, we will present them to her on Wednesday, Dec. 12th!
Congratulations to our very own, Hailey Porter, who has accepted the opportunity to serve with Winshape Camps as a counselor for the summer of 2019! We are so proud of you, Hailey, and can’t wait to see where God leads you on this adventure.
Mark your calendars for our Kid Zone/Nursery Christmas party, which doubles as December's PNO! The date is Friday, December 14th and the time is 5:30-8:00. We will engage in the usual Christmasy festivities- games, music, a Christmas movie, fun food, cookie decorating, etc. As usual, dinner will be served. The kids and I will discuss the attire Sunday/Wednesday, and I will update you on that ;) The cost is $10 per child. Please register ASAP.
Thank you to everyone who helped make
"Breakfast with Santa" a wonderful event for our members.
