This Sunday is the second in the season of Advent, the time we prepare for the mystery of Christmas: that God comes to be with us, to be one of us, in the Christ child.
We will welcome again God's gift of peace with the lighting of the Advent wreath. We will tell again the old story of "the annunciation" in Luke 1:26-38, and overhear God's messenger, Gabriel, inviting Mary to bear the Christ child into the world.
We will also consider the odd family tree that Jesus comes from, in Matthew 1:1-17. Usually we skim over, or even skip, the genealogies in scripture. But Matthew's genealogy of Jesus contains some curious figures. Are there any interesting or even shameful ancestors, in your family tree? Can you see God at work in your own family background, working to bring healing, goodness and abundant life?
All this, and we'll sing, pray, share our struggles and our joys, and find companions on the way to Bethlehem.
See you in church!
