Strands of Genius is curated lovingly by Rosie & Faris, usually on Mondays & Thursdays, but occasionally you'll find it in your inbox other days too. They're unpredictable like that. They hope you read it, enjoy it, tweet it, share it -- and tell your mom ;)

THE WORD

(BRIEF BITS OF INBOX INSPIRATION BROUGHT TO YOU BY)

This week’s Strands is guest curated by Steve Bryant: passably handsome founder of Rental Car Rally, super delightful head of content at Article Group, and all-around friendly neighborhood human. Steve met Faris on stage at PSFK a lifetime ago and — this is true — curated his first date ever with Rosie. Best thing he’s ever done. Top five at least.

Steve thinks most people copy the wrong things. Steve thinks Twitter is a gun. Steve thinks good explanations are persuasion enough. Steve watches other people’s screens on airplanes. Steve is intendedly rational, but only boundedly so. Steve thinks we are all just creating the work of the self in an age of social reproduction. Steve thinks: don’t argue with sunshine.

And Steve thinks you should get a drink with him when next you’re in New York. Mwah!

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.”

How to Balance Full-Time Work With Creative Projects

#Advice #DoAllTheThings
Step 1) be honest with yourself. Step 2) Have patience. Step 3) Sometimes, like those '90s "war on drugs" commercials somberly intoned: just say no. This is a wonderful and empathetic guide to treating yourself kindly while pursuing your passions. ::THE CREATIVE INDEPENDENT::

The Digital Maginot Line

#Culture #Dystopia #Frogs
Here’s a thing you’ve probably felt yourself: Twitter isn’t a social network, Twitter is a gun. An attack surface that targets attention. A means of weaponizing words. In Ribbonfarm: a riveting deep dive into the “warm war” of information online on platforms like Twitter and Facebook, and how our current defenses against this blitzkrieg of disinformation are, like Andre Maginot’s bunkers, woefully inadequate. ::RIBBON FARM::
