All Pro Dad Meeting
Hey Dads and Kids...warm up with the kids next week!  Even though our calendars are filled already with parties and concerts, etc., there is always time for breakfast.  Join us for December's Lutz Prep/Lutz Pre-Prep All Pro Dad - Dad’s and Kid’s Breakfast.

This month's topic is "Generosity".  Big Idea: Most people live life looking to take rather than give. Being generous is an important attribute to teach and model for our children. Giving can fuel the general happiness and well-being in not only the person that we help, but also in us when we give. Generosity demonstrates that we truly value others and are willing to reach out and meet their needs.

Team up with other Lutz Prep Dads and Kids for a quick before-school breakfast on Wednesday, December 12.  Doors open at 7:00 AM.  The program starts at 7:15 AM and ends at 7:45 AM.  Remember to bring your driver's license to check in with the main office for your visitor's badge.  It’s fun and it’s free.  You and your kids will be glad you came!  Great way to start the morning.  Contact Ryan Martin with any questions.

Winter Concert
Thursday, December 13, 2018
We are so excited to present Grades Kindergarten, 1st, 6th, 7th and 8th in this year's Winter Concert.  Parents are strongly encouraged to attend.

  • 9:45 AM ~ Kindergarten performance “December Gifts.”
  • 10:30 AM ~ 6th Grade performance
  • 11:15 AM ~ 8th Grade performance
  • 12:15 PM – 7th Grade dance and music performance

Students should dress for the concert in school appropriate dress shirts and pants, ties, dresses, etc. according to Hillsborough County guidelines. If students wish to change out of their concert clothes after the performance, they may change into their standard LP school uniform.

During the dance performance, 7th grade Fitness students should wear a white school appropriate top and black bottoms. They will need black socks.

The entire school is invited to come watch!  Staff will guide visitors through front south gate to circle around to the gym entrance.  You may park in the regular parking lots, overflow lot is the field south of the main building.  Please do not park in the car loops!

Middle School Strike Zone Awards for 1st Quarter
We will be celebrating our middle school students for their hard work during the 1st quarter with a Strike Zone Award.  This award will be given to students with who had a 3.75 GPA or higher (no more than two B's) on their report card, no more than three absences, and no behavior infractions during the 1st quarter of the school year.

The Strike Zone ceremony will be held in the gym on Friday, December 14th at 7:30 AM.  Parents will enter through the South gate at 7:15 AM so we may start on time.  Students arriving after 7:30 AM will not be permitted to enter the ceremony.  Their items will be delivered to their classrooms later in the day.

Congratulations to the following students who will be recognized at the ceremony:

Leader in Me Training Seminars for Parents Starting Again In January
Please join other LP Parents in a Leader in Me 7 Habits Seminar (4 sessions) to help families reinforce what is being learned in the classroom.  Sessions begin January and run through mid-March.  Space is limited so please check your schedule and sign up as soon as possible.  We are kindly asking that ONLY ONE parent per family sign up to allow as many as possible to attend, parents should sign up for 4 sessions so they can learn about all 7 habits.  Click HERE to reserve your spot.  Hours at seminar will count towards your required volunteer hours for the year.  A few additional slots were opened!

Our first sessions have been wonderful with very positive feedback from the attendees!  We do want to keep the sessions to a smaller groups as they are interactive and a larger group would not fit the format of the session.  Be on the lookout for additional sessions to be offered during the spring, dates to be determined.

Special thanks to the following parents who graciously volunteered to be the parent ambassadors for the training sessions.  They attended training last May to help expand the Leader in Me program in the 18-19 school year:  Kristin McCormick, Kathleen Tyson, Trish Schaefer, Monica Dapcic, and Ryan Martin.

3rd Quarter Blazing Bolts Run Club for 1st-5th Grade
Members will consist of any first through fifth grade student that would like to participate in an after school activity but either isn't old enough, or does not like the pressure of a competitive athletic team.

The Blazing Bolts Running Club will be a fun way to have your student(s) learn about running as well as give them time to socialize with their friends in a safe, friendly environment.  The Blazing Bolts' events will take place eight times per grading quarter and will be hosted at the Lutz Prep Soccer Field from after school until 4:30 PM.

During our events your children will learn the value of exercise, collect prizes for their accomplishments, and, most importantly, be able to have fun with their friends.  Each student that signs up will receive a Blazing Bolts dri-fit t-shirt and be able to participate in the end of quarter "party" where other prizes for exemplary performances will be handed out.

Registration links coming soon, please get your FHSAA Sports Physical Form completed and turned in to the school office if you do not already have one on file.  This is not the same as a regular yearly physical.  The sports physicals can be completed in a very fast, inexpensive manner at many local walk in clinics such as CVS or Medi-Express.  Email an electronic copy to adminstration@lutzprep.org or turn in a copy to the office (please keep a copy for your personal records).

If you have any further questions feel free to email me at: chad.mollick@lutzprep.org.

Thank you and GO BOLTS!
Chad Mollick

News from 6th Grade

Middle School 6th Grade Leaders Synergizing!

The 6th grade teachers turned over the reins and let the students take ownership of the 6th grade bulletin board.  A team of students gets together each month to update the board with a new theme for the grade to embrace each month. This months theme is friendship and how to “be a friend worth melting for.” Next week 6th grade will be brainstorming ideas on how to become a better friend, not just to their current friends, but others in their grade and school.  Thank you students and teachers, you make us so proud!

6th Grade's Annual Natures Classroom Three Day Field Trip

Nature’s Classroom is located in Northeast Hillsborough County on 365 acres containing a variety of natural communities (i.e. riverine swamp, sandhills, and pine flatwoods).  The Hillsborough River Watershed Field Study Program for 6th graders is the main focus of the programming at Nature’s Classroom. The students attend a 3-day immersion into the habitats, flora, fauna, human use, and impact field study of the Hillsborough River Watershed.

Technology Specials with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade with Ms. Lee
Coding with Dash and Dot has taken Kindergarten through Second Grade by storm this quarter.  Students are connecting their time coding in the classroom to coding the little robots.  There are several apps these new programmers can use to interact and control the robots.  The Blockly App uses blocks of code that snap together to change the robots’ lights and sounds.

While waiting for their turn at programming on the iPad, the programmers can also try their hand at other coding apps.  Some of the apps that they are exploring are: Tommy Turtle, Code Kart, Code Academy, and Boogie Bot.

Lost and Found!
Lost and Found will be donated Thursday, December 21th!  Please claim your items before then!  See Photos!  If the item is labeled it will be returned to the homeroom teacher, any item not labeled will be donated.

The second 1st Place Traveling Trophy was awarded Mrs. Holden in middle school to keep in her classroom for the month of December where she will proudly display it!

Based on this November collection, we were able to submit $412.00!  We should be receiving the check sometime in April 2019.  Great job!!!  Please note:  ***For November we had 930 Box Tops that were expired and 10 Box Tops that were not valid due to a cutting hazard.***

For the month of December, since we only have 3 weeks to collect Box Tops, we will be having an extra special contest!  The first homeroom class to reach a collection of 500, unexpired Box Tops by 12/20/18, will receive a saran wrap ball, total prize value at over $100, to unwrap as a class on 12/21/18!  The collection goal of 500 is only counting your December collections and not ongoing totals.  Game rules will be presented to the winning classroom along with all supplies to play.

The saran wrap ball will be on display in the main lobby starting on Monday 12/10.  Good luck and game on!
