Hello <<First Name>>

As the end of 2018 draws nearer, I’m finding myself more and more reflecting on the year I’ve had.  And, just as many of you may have experienced great ups and downs within the year, so too have I.  And I’d like to remind you that without the down times, the sad moments and the difficult challenges you have all faced throughout the year, you would not appreciate the happiness and successes nearly as much.

So take some time to reflect and ponder on the good, the bad and the ugly. What did you learn about yourself?  Perhaps you journaled about it?  Perhaps it happened when you were going through one of my programs.  What was it that helped get you through that difficult time?  Take some time to truly reflect so that you are prepared and ready to meet the challenges that the unpredictability of life throws our way.

I’d like to also take this time to express my gratitude to each and every one of you for being there, supporting my business, and sharing your stories. Thank you for allowing me into your lives and sharing with you the strategies I’ve learned from my professional development along the way.  On that note, I’d like to share with you all the gratitude I have for my mentors, specifically, David and Ellen Johnson of Davellen & Associates, Psychologists in Bendigo.

It has been a 20 year journey of my life that I have had some involvement with their services.  As some of you may already be aware, when I initially attended counselling for myself 20 years ago, it had such a profound impact on me, I knew then, I wanted to be a counsellor.

David and Ellen provided me with the kind of support and encouragement that I hope and I aspire to provide to my clients.  I have had some involvement with their service for the majority of the time over the past 20 years, from counselling, supervision and also the Diploma of Counselling Psychology.   It is time for them to close shop and begin their retirement.  I am so grateful for their contribution to my life, my professional development and support over the years.  In my last session with David, I expressed to him my sincerest and whole hearted gratitude that I have for him, Ellen and my other mentors from across the globe.

It is because of these people, far and near, I can sit in my home office with clients in Golden Square and provide my clients with the latest and most up to date, neuroscience, evidenced based practice and practical skills that have worked for their clients all over the world.  There really has never been a better time to be doing what I’m doing, to share these strategies with you all, to support you and stop needless suffering.

My mission in 2019 is to continue to help more people and do more good in the world.  Together, we are better.

Thank you to my clients, my mentors, and my biggest supporter, Lee.  Lee believed in me, helped me overcome my own automatic and negative thoughts, my false beliefs many of you have struggled with at some point.  Lee encouraged me to push through barriers I never thought I could, until now…ha-ha.

Lee really is the backbone of Jacqueline Hogan Counselling and strives for the continuous improvement of our business.  He supports me to support you.  Lee makes things run smoothly and efficiently from assessments and analysis, technical support, bookkeeping, marketing, newsletters, business management and development, strategic planning, program development and more.  Thank you Lee.  And, thank you all for sharing your lives with me and helping me to help you make your lives and the world a better place.

See you in 2019 –it’s gonna be a ripper!  New programs….hypnosis….training….plus more!

Have You Read The 'Window of Tolerance' Article?

Last month I released an excellent new resource to help you cope through and recover from stressful and traumatic events.
The concept is called your 'Window of Tolerance'.

If you missed it, check it out now, it's a handy one to have up your sleeve this time of year.

The resource includes one simple exercise to help keep your cool under pressure or responding to a threatening event, and another to self-soothe and stimulate your senses from a disengaged, depressed or frozen state.

Anxious about a Christmas Get Together?

Here are my top 3 tips to avoid conflict and promote harmony during the holiday period...

  • Practice gratitude and have an easy ‘go-to’ stress reducing technique in mind before attending a potentially stressful event, such as visiting the in-laws on Christmas day!
    • An easy, stress reducing technique includes, mindful breathing, where focusing on the breath to calm your breathing and lower your heart rate. Add in gratitude after your breathing exercise. Even thinking of one thing you are grateful for can be a big help at this time.
  • Get lots of sleep and take it easy on the alcohol. This may mean skipping some of your ‘pre-xmas’ catchups that friends, work, neighbours, clubs, family have organised. It’s okay to say ‘no’.
    • If alcohol is or has been been an issue for you, be sure to listen to the 'Free from Alcohol' meditation in the members area as well as the 'Unstuck Transformation' meditation (Members only access)
  • Cherish the present moment – warts and all. Enjoy the time off from work, notice the weather and the small things that make you happy, that you may have taken for granted in the past.
And one more, congratulate others on their achievements for the year and take inspiration from their achievements, big or small. Lessons or new opportunities could be right around the corner!
Merry Christmas!
That's it for this month! See you next time in 2019!
- Kind Regards, Your Counsellor & Coach, Jacqui!
