The Biweekly News of Paradise Valley Christian Preparatory

Thank you for your participation in making this year's virtual auction a huge success! Panther Press

The next Panther Press will be sent Monday, January 7. For more class information and teacher updates, you can visit faculty websites or the school calendar. For additional questions, please call the office at 602-992-8140 ext. 2211. For PAC inquiries contact Carey Broadwater at 602-430-3080 or carey@kbcm-inc.com.

Uniform Reminder

Brrr! It's getting cold out. Just a reminder, PVCP 1st-8th grade dress code allows PVCP sweatshirts in class or zippered sweatshirts/sweaters that are unzipped in class so the uniform still shows. Pullover sweatshirts that are not PVCP logo are not part of the dress code. We are almost halfway through the school year and kids are growing fast which means skirts are getting shorter. The Christmas break may be a great time to lengthen skirts; they have a generous hem that can be let down easily. The dress code calls for knee-length skirts. Please see the family handbook page 37 for more information.

Winter Open House

PVCP's Winter Open House for prospective families will be held on January 13 from 3 to 5 p.m. The event will include tours of campus, preview of curriculum, a meet and greet with staff and teachers, and a presentation on utilizing Arizona's tax credit laws to make a Christian education affordable. This is a great opportunity to introduce PVCP to your friends and family. Please consider over the break who you can invite to this important event!

Uniform Collection

Please bring your gently used and outgrown uniforms at morning drop-off to The Hub, located in the front of the office, on Friday, December 14. This is a collection only - no exchange. Your family's credit will be recorded to be used at the school wide Uniform Exchange in January. We will not accept lower/middle school polo/collared shirts, PE uniforms, and the old plaid (pre-2018).  The old plaid may be donated.

Shine donations are still being accepted now through Dec. 14. Donations will still count towards the Knott's Berry Farm trip and all other prizes, including classroom prizes. Pledges may be filled by following this link.
  • 5th - 12th grade $350 or more = Knotts Berry Farm
  • 8th and 12th grade $250 = Happy graduation
  • K - 4th grade $350 = Game truck / Laser tag
  • PR-K $350 = Personal prize

Miley Browne, Grace Gould, Nina Steffen, and Camdyn Ullman will have a bake sale at school December 12 and 14. Be sure to stop by and support their efforts!

January Archaeology Project for Grades 8 - 12

When our eighth through twelfth grade students return from Christmas break on January 7, 2019, they will begin an exciting mini unit on archaeology. They will learn how professional archaeologists do research; locate dig sites; map and excavate sites; catalog and record findings; clean and repair artifacts; use artifacts to understand history, the Bible, and Science; and create museum displays to share their findings.

Although their first day, January 7, will involve reading and studying in a classroom setting, the remainder of the week will be hands-on learning and application as they engage in an archaeological dig right here on campus.  Using research and artifact fragments, they will locate their dig site and begin the dig. By week’s end, their artifacts will be displayed in our temporary "Museum of Artificial History." Since we do not have an actual archaeological site on campus, one will be created to allow students to practice all aspects of archaeology.  Though artificial, our site will tie in to actual Arizona history.

Following this week-long project, classroom teachers will use this experience as a springboard to further student understanding of the importance of archaeology and how archaeologists use math, science, history, literature, and other academic skills to study the past.  Students will employ map skills, keeping accurate records, budgeting (“grant money” will be used to “purchase” equipment and supplies), geometry and measurement, computer skills, and more to complete their archaeology project and classroom follow up studies.

Feel free to stop by campus on Tuesday – Thursday (January 8 – 10) to see firsthand how the dig is progressing. Plan a visit to the Museum on Friday afternoon (January 11) to see the recovered and restored artifacts and to glimpse the history behind our dig.  (Students will be dressing casually during this week because of their dig field work.)

Reenrollment for 2019 Now Open

In response to the large increase in new family enrollment during the 2018-2019 school year, we have made the decision to open up reenrollment earlier and begin open enrollment in January. By doing so, we have more of an opportunity to fill classes earlier, giving us a greater possibility to split classes as numbers increase, thereby providing your students with the best possible education. Reenrollment began on November 9, and open enrollment for new families will begin on January 1.

Steps to Reenrolling:

Please complete the following steps to complete your child's reenrollment for the 2019-2020 school year:

1. Log in to the Parent Portal.
2. Click on tab labeled "Online Forms."
3. Select the student, select the "2019/20 Reenrollment Form" and click "Start New Form."
Most of the student's info will be automatically populated. Please only change if necessary.
4. Once you have completed the form, click on "Shopping Cart (Submit)" under "Application Actions" in the left menu.
5. You will be brought to a checkout page where you will be required to pay the reenrollment fee. No processing fees will be charged for either ACH or credit card payments.
6. Once the payment method has been entered, please click "Confirm."
7. You will receive a confirmation e-mail that your reenrollment has been processed for that student.

*Repeat steps 2 through 7 for any additional children.

Please note, if a family's account balance is greater than $500, the family will need to pay their balance prior to beginning the reenrollment process. You may contact Anna Tracy at 602-992-8140 x2241 or atracy@pvcp.org to discuss your account.

The student medical form and family contacts update will be available for completion this summer.

Max Capacity by Grade Level:

2019-2020 Tuition

Every school year around mid-year, the Board and Administration prayerfully discuss and establish the tuition schedule for the subsequent year. The board makes every possible effort to ensure that any potential increase is kept to a minimum. As soon as 2019-2020 tuition levels are available, those numbers will be presented to the PVCP community.

Band Students Perform at La Mars Donuts

Moms in Prayer & Big Boys on Campus

If you are available, it would be an honor to have you come and pray with other moms and dads for the children, teachers, and staff, and families of PVCP.  Even if you are not accustomed to praying with others, please consider joining this important, vibrant group.

Moms in Prayer (MIP) meet Wednesday mornings at 8:15 a.m. in the Schoolhouse.
Contact Kim Good at kgood@pvcp.org for more information or for prayer requests to be prayed confidentially by Moms in Prayer. The next MIP quarterly meetings will be on Wednesday, February 27, and Wednesday, May 1 located in the Schoolhouse at 3:15 p.m.

Big Boys on Campus (BBOC) is a group of dads praying for and serving PVCP.  “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective” James 15:6. Join in fellowship with other dads every Friday at 8 a.m. in the Schoolhouse as we pray together for our school community. Join other men in being the “muscle” for the school picnic and other PVCP events. Contact Pastor Mike Neamtu at 602.405.9347 or at dorumineamtu@cox.net.

PVCP Business Office Reminders

All tuition payments are due the first of the month. A late fee of $35.00 will be assessed on the sixth of the month. It is imperative we receive timely payments in order to meet our monthly obligations. Thank you.

The office will accept cash or check in person, but card payments must be made through the parent portal. Please review your online options; fees for an ACH payment is $5, fee for a credit card payment is a percentage. The ACH option may be more economical for some. If you have any questions, please see Angie Lucas in the Business Office or email her at alucas@pvcp.org.

$2 Jeans Day

$2 Jeans Days are a PAC fundraiser that supports PVCP teachers, their classrooms, and the school. The next $2 Jeans Day is Friday, January 11. If you have not already paid for the year, students must give the exact change ($2) to their teacher. If they do not, you will have to bring a school uniform to them. If an upper school casual dress day falls on $2 Jeans Day, payment is not required. If, however, any other "special" day falls on it and jeans are worn, payment is required.

Dress Code Requirements for $2 Jeans Day: Uniform, PVCP logo, or spirit wear t-shirts are required, but do not need to be tucked in. Belts are NOT required. Only black or blue denim is permitted in 1st through 8th grade, while upper school may wear any color. Jeans may not have holes, rips, or tears. No cutoffs or tattered jeans are permitted. Jeans, denim capris, or uniform length shorts or skirts may be worn. When in doubt check your student's planner for dress code requirements (lower school page 15, middle and upper school page 19).

Tuition Recruitment Incentive Program (TRIP)

Did you know we offer current PVCP families an incentive to recruit new families? Through TRIP, for every family you recruit to PVCP, your tuition is reduced by $500 per year.
  • There is no limit to the number of families you can recruit or number of tuition credits you can receive!
  • The recruited and recruiting families must complete the academic year or tuition credit will be prorated through the withdrawal month.
  • 50% of the credit will be applied to your account in December and the remaining 50% in April.

Simple ways to support PVCP

Fry's Community Rewards: Did you know you can support PVCP every time you shop at Fry's? Simply link your card to PVCP's account. Learn more by clicking here. Remember, you must link your card every year.

Amazon Members: Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to the charitable organization of your choice. Please consider choosing PVCP when designating your donation recipient.  AmazonSmile is the same Amazon you know. Same products, same prices, same service. Support your charitable organization by starting your shopping at  smile.amazon.com  Follow this link for details.

Tax Credit Contribution: As the end of the year approaches, consider making a contribution to an STO designating PVCP or a specific student as the recipient. Contributions to these organizations not only give you a dollar-for-dollar tax credit when making your State of Arizona filing, but it allows PVCP to assist families with their tuition who otherwise wouldn't be able to attend a Christian school. You may also be able to count your contributions to an STO as a federal deduction. Call Anna Tracy in the PVCP business office at 602-992-8140 ext. 2241 for more information.
