Let's challenge ourselves this month and next to learn the two longest Mass propers. This month will be the Gloria from Mass VIII. 

Lesson Plans

Week 1

  1. Print the text and translation .  (Read its history, too.)

  2. Follow along with this pronunciation guide video.  This week, practice pronunciation of these lines: 
    Gloria in excelsis Deo.
    Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis.
    Laudamus te. Benedicimus te.
    Adoramus te. Glorificamus te.

  3. Listen to the chant, and follow along. 

 

Week 2

  1. Practice pronunciation of these lines: 
    Gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam.
    Domine Deus, Rex caelestis, Deus Pater omnipotens.
    Domine Fili unigenite, Iesu Christe.
    Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris.

  2. Begin copywork & illustrations to aid meditating on the text. 

  3. Listen to the chant, and follow along. 

 

Week 3

  1. Practice pronunciation of these lines:
    Qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
    Qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram.
    Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis.

  2. Finish copywork & verse illustrations.

  3. Listen to the chant, and follow along.  Here is a beautiful recording from Corpus Christi Watershed. (this is how I like to randomly belt it out at home, or wherever the acoustics are good) ;) 

Week 4

 

  1. Practice pronunciation of these lines:
    Quoniam tu solus Sanctus. Tu solus Dominus.
    Tu solus Altissimus, Iesu Christe.
    Cum Sancto Spiritu, in gloria Dei Patris. Amen.

  2. Teens/Adults: Watch the 4th episode of On a Sacred NoteThe Counter-Reformation, Part II” from CatholicTV.org

  3. Listen to the chant, and follow along.
