OpGo message from Pastor Helwig: event tomorrow!
This fall over 60 Warriors were selected to be on Operation Go teams. In 2019, seven teams will travel to missions and congregations all over the United States. We need your help to keep this vital program going full-steam! All of these trips are energized by the efforts of the students, parents and mentoring staff members to raise dollars, increase awareness, help plan for the work and the travel. We invite your prayers for our teens, the chaperones, the congregations, and the work. We also invite your help when possible to help with fundraisers and publicizing events. We encourage you to support these trips financially and to share the news of these mission trips among the Lakeside congregations. You can do that in any of several simple ways:
  1. Donate online when you go to llhs.org/opgo. On this Operation Go page, you’ll see photos of our eager student teams with a yellow donate button for that team. Click to donate with debit, credit or Paypal-- be sure to leave a message of support too!
  2. Consider it a Christian gift of faith as you write a check to Lakeside Lutheran. Designate Operation Go on the memo line and it will be directed to the OpGo program by our Development and Finance departments.
  3. Watch for opportunities to assist the Operation Go team members by volunteering and participating in their various fundraising events around the Lakeside federation and on campus. First up? Advent supper at St. Paul tomorrow and Cabela's gift wrapping on Dec. 16!
  4. Visit Operation GO on Facebook -- @OperationLakesideGO -- to keep up with team progress, see upcoming events, share news and giving opportunities, and leave messages of support and encouragement!

Course Requests for 2019-2020
Students have begun the process of requesting courses for  2019-20. Guidance Director Mr. Rosenau has met with all students in small groups to discuss the process as well as considerations that must be taken into account when it comes to selecting courses. Students have until Wednesday, Dec. 12 to make their course requests in the PowerSchool student portal, and parents are also able to access it in their parent accounts. This tutorial video shows how students go about making the actual course requests in PowerSchool. Students have also been instructed to fill out a four-year course plan. See the complete course selection list online or download a printed booklet with worksheets and other informational pages here.

For students who plan on pursuing a four-year college degree after graduation, there are a number of requirements. Most colleges and universities will require three years of Math, including Algebra II & Trigonometry. Most require three years of Science, including Chemistry. In both instances, four credits are preferred. Two consecutive years of a world language is a common requirement as well.

Students have also been invited to have a one-on-one meeting with Mr. Rosenau upon request. If families have any questions or concerns or would like further instructions, please contact the Guidance Office.

Toy Drive is ON!
Our National Honor Society has partnered with Kingdom Workers to support its new Foster Support Program with a Toy Drive to help brighten the lives of children living in foster care.

The drive began for Warrior teens yesterday, Dec. 3 and runs through Dec. 13; every LL student is encouraged to participate by bringing a new unwrapped toy to school. Bonus for families and friends: on Monday, Dec. 10 and Tuesday, Dec. 11, all fans who bring a new toy receive free admission to the home basketball games (GBB v. Stoughton, BBB v. Marshall). Some specific toys that are especially in need: find the list on the NHS page.

Senior pic deadline is this month!
Senior families, don't forget the upcoming deadline for getting your senior portrait pose into the LL Yearbook is December 15. The yearbook needs senior photos that follow certain size, orientation, pose and background rules. Please take a look at the guidelines and take the sheet along to any senior photo shoot you attend.

Handbook Highlight: Semester Exam Excuse Form
This week students will be receiving the "semester exam excuse form."  Students are required to be at Lakeside during semester exams.  However, there are certain classes (a phy ed class, for example) in which an exam will not take place - it will be a study hall.  If that class takes place at the beginning or end of the exam day, that student may be excused.  Students may not be excused for a "middle period" when there is a test before and after that period.

Students who want to be excused from such classes must fill out a "semester exam excuse form" and have it signed by parents in order to be excused.  Students who do not do this and are missing from their classes will be considered "unexcused."  Extra forms can be found in the office, and can be downloaded from llhs.org (click top link "Students" then "forms and docs" or just click here).  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call the school office. The form is due on Thursday, December 13.  A student who plans to be present at Lakeside during all exam periods does not need to hand in a form.
