     School Value for Term 4
     Mana Whakahaere/Responsibility
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It’s hard to believe we are in December already, and moving rapidly towards the close of our school year. We have continued our busy times with several of our students experiencing great results at the recent North West Athletics which sees them move through to compete at the Auckland Competition where we wish them all the very best. Our students are enjoying using the pool for class and lunchtime sessions, and this week was the beginning of the pool being opened for those who are key holders. Preparation for Band Night has been intense and students have shown their talent once again in what they have created together. You too can experience this on Wednesday 5 December at 7:30pm for a gold coin koha.
The Y1/2 students have been honing their football skills in the sessions being run for them and it is great to see them having fun and building their skills. Once again a large amount of lost property has been displayed in the anticipation of it being claimed, but alas not as much as we hoped has been returned to the owner. Naming items makes it so much easier to ensure they are returned. The APPA Choir students had a wonderful night performing in the Town Hall. It was a pleasure to listen and watch them in action and well done to those who had special parts to play in the performance. Thanks also to Mrs Dickinson for all her time to polish the performers. A great evening to be part of, I feel sure that everyone will have felt proud to be there.
Our EPro8 teams also performed extremely well and what exciting times occur as we battle to get extra points on the board and get ahead. It is wonderful to see some of our teams make it through to the finals, we wish them every success as they compete. A great Good from Scratch evening was held recently with Michael van de Elzen, an entertaining, enjoyable time for all those attending. Thanks so much to our PTA for their amazing organisation. Our library is currently doing a stocktake, so please make sure that all resources have been returned to assist with this. We have students who are playing the opening game before the Breakers on Sunday 9 December, and I am sure that they will enjoy the occasion and show us their skills. We have had some recent incidents after hours, some, where property has been removed, and we ask that you assist in keeping a look out for us, and taking care of our school. Thank you for all your help.

Kind regards,

Anita Newland

Kumeu/Huapai Christmas Parade 7 December
The Christmas Parade this year is this Friday 7 December.  This year the theme for the School entry to the Huapai Christmas parade is “Merry Country Christmas” as a reflection of our surrounding area.  It is planned that we will have two children with their pet lambs on a lead, inside a white picket fence area on the back of the truck.  The lambs must be very relaxed, and still willing to wear a collar and lead.  The fence is only a prop, so the lambs have to be well behaved.  The children/owner of the lambs are to sit with the lambs inside the area.  (Hay bales or stools will be provided to sit on).

Also, we have had interest in children riding their pony beside/behind the truck.  The horse must be very quiet and comfortable with loud noise, and preferably a parent walking with the pony.  We do have one parent already walking.

If you can get your lamb/pony and your child to Tapu Road by 5pm and home after the parade, then please contact Claire on 021-773771.  We have space for 2 lambs.

NOTE:  Due to the large size of the truck for our float, Drop off is now Cnr Tapu and Sunny Cresent (not the actual sports field), and pick up is at the Kumeu Showgrounds for children and animals who wish to be on our float.  If you have any questions, please contact Claire 021-773-771.

Waimauku School Float for the Kumeu Santa Parade
A notice has gone home about the parade - please return the slip to the office if your child wants to be on the float.

Theme:  Merry Country Christmas
Date: Friday 7 December, 5.30 pm
Where:  Corner of Sunny Crescent and Tapu Road
Road Closure: from 6.45pm

We will all meet at the corner of Sunny Crescent and Tapu Road at 5-5.30. Children need to be in costume. Judging is between 5.30 and 6.30.  The parade begins at 6.45pm.

Please note:  After the parade the truck will stop at the Kumeu Showgrounds.
Please help us ‘defrock’ the truck (takes 10-15 mins if we all help) and collect your child/ children.

Things to note:
Eat before you come, or bring a picnic, takeaways… whatever is easy!
We will be suppling a small bottle of water.  If you want you can bring an additional bottle of water, but please note, there are no toilet stops until the parade finishes.
In the interests of safety, nothing is to be thrown from the parade vehicle.

We need about 6-8 COSTUMED adults on the float, to supervise younger children.
The float will hold approx. 50 children. If we are too full, the older children may need to walk (with adults)

Weather: parade will continue unless weather is extremely bad.

Decorating float vehicle:
The truck will be decorated with a Christmas and Country Theme – with animals.
We would like assistance decorating the float on the day of the 7th December from 2pm. Decorating the float location will be confirmed earlier in the day as there are limitations of where the truck can go in the sportsgrounds.  Please contact me if you can assist with decorating and I can inform you where we will be.  We also need pieces of 4x long lengths of wood to make the frame – we would be very grateful.  (we can return after the parade, we will be drilling into them but not cutting them).  We also require assistance undressing the truck at the end.

Children’s costumes:
Please dress your child in clothes that relate to either Christmas or a Farmer.  It might be hot/cold, so be mindful of weather conditions.  .. anything Christmas or Farming.  Be creative.

Contact on the day: Claire  021 773 771

Kumeu Night Food Market
This year post the parade, there will be a Kumeu Night Food Market with over 20 Food Trucks onsite.  A couple of the food vans will be at the start of the parade to help feed participants before the parade starts.   There will also be Entertainment, including the Kumeu Brass Band.

There is also a shuttle running from 4.30pm from the Showgrounds to the sportsground, which can relocate parents/children/participants from their parked vehicle back to the parade start.  This will enable participants to have their car at the end of the parade.   Parking is FREE.  This is handy for those parents who are dropping animals and children off at the start, as they can drive to the showgrounds and be taken back to the float truck if required.

PTA UPDATE
