New Local Plan

Since our last monthly e-Newsletter in October, two additional e-Newsletters have been sent covering the publication of the Potential Sites document by TRDC, the consultation and also a review by CRA of the sites identified in the document in Chorleywood.

TRDC have announced that the consultation period is extended by two weeks, and now ends at 5pm on Friday 21st December 2018.

This new Local Plan will directly influence planning decisions within TRDC, including Chorleywood, for the next 10-15 years and it is important that TRDC receive feedback on the proposed sites during this consultation.

You can find out more information on the New Local Plan page of our website, and also on the TRDC website.

Chorleywood Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan

Whilst the Three Rivers District Local Plan consultation on Potential Sites is being conducted, there is also a consultation on the Chorleywood Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) being undertaken. The NDP operates at a lower level than the Local Plan and cannot directly conflict with it but provides the Parish with the ability to influence design and form of development within the area.

There is a display on the NDP in Chorleywood Library throughout the consultation period, ending 21st December, and representatives of the Parish and Residents Association will be in the library on the 1st December from 9:00 to 12:00 to answer any questions you may have on the NDP.

Copies of the plan and further information on how to respond to it can be found at www.chorleywood-pc.gov.uk/neighbourhood-plan.

CRA 100 Club reaches 100 members

Thanks to everyone for their support of the 100 Club in 2018. From a standing start in January we have just reached our first target of 100 members!  The winners can be seen on our Website along with full details about the 100 Club and how to join. This helps to fund our publications and annual events and of course gives all members the chance for a prize each month.

Thanks again for your support!  All the best in 2019.

Update from the Federation of Metropolitan Line Users Committee

In our last Newsletter we mentioned that your Chairman has joined the Federation of Metropolitan Line Users Committee (FOMLUC) and attended his first meeting in Harrow on Monday November 12th. Following some residents’ emails about the lack of fast trains from London outside the rush hour, this was raised at the meeting. Also the lack of sufficient coaches on the Chiltern Line trains causing overcrowding.

Our understanding is that these issues have been regularly reviewed with London Underground Ltd (LUL) and Chiltern Railways. LUL have advised that they are considering having a more frequent service on the Amersham Line post re-signalling the line.  This will allow trains to run faster and closer together and the expectation is that the current 4 trains per hour could rise to 6 through Chorleywood. The re-signalling is not expected to be complete until 2021.

Regarding the length of Chiltern Railways trains this requires additional stock and will be a factor in the tender for the new franchise to take place in two years time when the existing franchise expires.

If you have any issues to raise regarding the Metropolitan Line, then let Owen know in advance by emailing transport@chorleywoodresidents.co.uk

Reporting potholes and other highway faults

As the roads will be starting to deteriorate as winter approaches we thought it worth reminding residents to report any highway fault through the Hertfordshire County Council website - Highways Fault Reporting  and not to use the 'FixMyStreet' website.

Highway fault information reported through 'FixMyStreet' ties up HCC's resources but more importantly, it is not compatible with their system and as a result prevents them from providing the level of response they want to.

HCC have said the benefits of reporting directly into the system are:

  • The fault reporting system works 24/7 as Highways work 24/7 (with an out-of-hours team for night time emergencies)
  • You can pinpoint the fault on a map so we know exactly where it is (there is a non map based option if preferred)
  • Within seconds of the fault being submitted it has gone into the HCC system to get you a reference number
  • You can track the progress and will receive an update once we have assessed the fault
  • It saves the Council approximately £2 when you log it online directly this way

Please refer to the list of issues below before deciding which system to use:

Highways Fault Reporting System - HCC FixMyStreet - TRDC
  • All road issues (including potholes)
  • Road sign issues (including vandalism)
  • Street light issues
  • Traffic light issues
  • Footpath issues (including trip hazards)
  • Flooding
  • Blocked drains
  • Road obstructions
  • Pavement obstructions
  • Street nameplate issues (including vandalism)
  • Graffiti
  • Parking or permit issues
  • Fly tipping
  • Litter and street cleaning
  • Dog Fouling
  • Noise issues
  • Fly posters
  • Abandoned vehicles

We have a guide to reporting faults via the HCC system on our website How Do I page or you can go directly to the HCC Fault Reporting webpage. For issues TRDC are responsible for continue to use the FixMyStreet app or website.

Schubert masterpiece features in lunchtime concert

One of Franz Schubert’s lesser-known masterpieces will be performed at a lunchtime concert in Rickmansworth on Wednesday, December 5th.

Schubert composed more than 600 pieces of music before dying at the age of 31. But his Piano Trio No 2 in E flat, which was written towards the end of his short life, is among his most astonishing achievements. It is rarely performed in concert halls but has featured on the soundtracks of some memorable films, such as The Piano Teacher, starring Isabelle Huppert, and Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon.

Next month’s Three Rivers Music Society concert is being given by the Midlands-based Jayne Walker Piano Trio. They will also perform variations from another seldom-heard work, Josef Rheinberger’s Suite in C minor for organ, violin and cello.

The December 5 concert will be held at the Baptist Church, High Street, Rickmansworth WD3 1EH. It will begin at 1pm. Tickets at the door: £5 for members, £6 non-members, free entry for under-25s.  Further information www.trms.elgar.org
