Dear WPC Youth Families and Volunteers,

Pastor Tom Rice and I are saddened to report that Brian Edwards has tendered his resignation as our Director for Youth Ministry, effective December 13, 2018.

As you will read in his letter (below), Brian and his wife, Lisa, have determined they must return to North Carolina, to be near Lisa’s parents.

His sudden news is a shock and a disappointment.  We want our teenagers to have their questions answered. We want them to understand that Brian’s reasons for leaving concern his commitment to his family, and not his commitment and care for our youth.  To help process our thoughts and feelings, Pastor Tom and Colby Srsic will host a gathering (with pizza) for youth and volunteers in the WPC Youth Room tomorrow, Wednesday, November 28, 6:00-7:00 p.m.  At the same time, parents are welcome to meet in the Chapel with Taylor Surface (Youth Comm. chair), Dan Beck (Personnel Comm. chair) and me.

Both the Youth and the Personnel Committees are brainstorming ways we can carry forward our faith development ministries with youth.  It is encouraging to realize we can readily think of many members who care so deeply about our teenagers. Pastor Tom is the point of contact for your suggestions or questions.

Rest assured that growing young disciples through Youth Ministry is a key dimension of our life and purpose as a congregation, and addressing this new need will be a priority for the entire Session.

I have no doubt we can rise to this occasion, especially when we remember to take a deep breath and draw on God’s all-out love for us.  Who knows?—this
challenge may be just the way Christ plans to enter our hearts anew this Advent and Christmas.

Grace and peace,
Julia

Dear WPC Youth Group Family,

I want to thank you for the impact you have had on my life. Being your youth director has been one of the great joys of my life. I am so thankful for the memories we made and the faith we share. I am writing to let you know I have made the very difficult decision to resign as the Director of Youth Ministry. My family will be moving to central North Carolina in the middle of December. Our lease is up at that time and that is why we’re moving so soon. It saddens me to leave this ministry, but I have to put my family first. I’ve determined living close to family and Lisa’s parents is best for our family. I know this is short notice and I apologize for that. My immediate plans are to look for work as I apply to seminary (the school you go to if you want to become a Pastor).

I love you and will miss you greatly. As I reflect on our time together several words come to mind:

Blessed – I have been beyond blessed to have you as a friend. You have blessed my life and I will be forever changed because of our time together!

Inspired – You have (and will continue) to inspire me to live my faith in such a way that brings honor to God and makes a difference in the world!

Proud – I am so very proud of you. I have seen you grow in your faith, use your talents to help others, and create a place where everyone is welcome!

I’m not a 100% sure what the future holds but I know who holds the future. So, it is with faith that we make this move. I know that God will take care of us and will take care of you. You have made this youth ministry the pride and joy of our congregation. With the love and support of the adult leaders, the church, and the amazing staff at WPC – the youth ministry will continue being a vital part of the church!

December 2nd and 9th will be my last two youth group meetings. I look forward to having that time with the youth group. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have at the meetings. Thank you for your friendship!

God bless you!

Brian Edwards
