Tis The Season of Giving
Leap of Joy has been teaching after school dance classes at Harris Elementary for a number of years. Seven years ago, we met Amy for the first time when she was in second grade. She was born to a mother who spoke no English and she knew very little but she excelled in her ability and passion to learn. She excelled in dance because of that same determination and drive. She excelled in dance because she engaged in the music and performed from her heart. Today Amy is a freshman at Ann Richards and an honor student. She wants to be an environmental engineer. Unlike Amy, who is an only child, Liz has a number of brothers and a sister. She joined Leap of Joy in the 4th grade and she is a freshman at Reagan High School and in the top 10% of her class. At 4’11” she is the only freshman chosen to be on the varsity soccer team. Liz has had a troubled childhood with an alcoholic and abusive father recently returned to Mexico. Her mother works long hours and has never come to one of Liz’s performances. As an alumnus, Liz continues to perform a solo in our yearly Care to Dance.
I don’t believe it is an exaggeration to say that Leap of Joy has been life changing for both girls and
many more.
It’s astonishing what a little support and care can do. Not only are our instructors talented and experienced dancers and actors, they are amazing teachers who have a true dedication to their students. With your support we continue to improve the lives of the kids we serve. This coming Tuesday is giving day. I hope you will see our value and donate to our Caps & Mittens for Kids program. Let’s keep them warm over the cold months ahead.
Happy Holidays!
